Cyber bullying is actually a pretty serious issue. Sure, you can go on about people like Boxxy and the "dun goofed" incident and make a complete joke about it. But being someone who has experienced cyber bullying, that I didn't bring upon myself like those above cases, I can tel lyou it's nothing to laugh at.

I use to get bullied at school, a lot. I won't elaborate on the fine details, but I was an easy target. I got called any insult imaginable, I got regular beatings (though nothing too severe, mainly pushing and punches to the arm/being tripped over). The thing about cyber bullying is, it's a continuation of the abuse you face at school.

The internet was an escape for me. After being picked on all day, I could escape into my own little world and leave my troubles behind me. I really, really enjoyed this. It was my own little world that no one else was apart of. But within time, the bullies tracked me down. They found my space, got a hold of my email address and the abusive spam flooded in. No matter where I went, no matter how I tried to escape, the bullying followed me. It's a sense of helplessness, like you won't ever escape for the people who want to make your life hell. Every waking moment, someone is there, tormenting you. You can't run, you can't hide, you just have to take it for what it is.

That is what makes cyber bullying such a depressing thing. Maybe you think it's all some big joke, summed up by pathetic fucking memes, but it's something that ruins your life. Seriously.

It's only funny until someone decides to take daddy's .45 for a little test run at the mall. Then again, victims of bullying ("cyber" or not) are also at fault since they don't know how to stand up for themselves. One good fucking brawl is all you need; unless you live in NY, which in most cases, you would have to worry about getting stabbed after school.

It's not that simple though. The thing with cyber bullying is that it's an extension of the real life bullying. Take someone life boxy. Do you really think she could simply "click the x" and it all goes away? No, because the real life bullying (mail threats, stalking threats etc) are still present. The internet is meant an as escape, but soon it becomes the problem. You can close the site your being harassed on and never visit it again (social networking, for example), but these sites that you enjoy visiting to are the relief. Their message may be nullified a little, but you also cut out the activities you enjoy by doing so. Either way, they still win.

When I was at school (14-16 I'm referring to here), I was very short, a little chubby and I didn't have a single ounce of muscle on me. I had about 3 friends, all of which were as physically challenged as me. The people bullying me followed the way of natural order: tall, muscular and aggressive. It's a simple case of Jocks V Nerds and I was the victim. You say I just need to brawl them, but how on earth would 4 pathetic nerds take down a group of 20+ jocks? I don't think so.
Also round my way, if your not careful you will find yourself with a knife in your gut. It use to be pretty good, but the local communities surrounding me have taken some bad turns for the worst. You can't just go brawling people where I'm from, you never know who they are friends with.

But seriously, I'm over this ranting shit. You can think cyber bullying is a joke, but I know myself the consequences of it. It's easy to say how simple it is to walk away from it all or how simple it is to stand up for yourself, but it's really not that simple in those cases. But hey, it's the internet, it's all just one giant fucking barrel of laughs, isn't it?

Many, many, many sites have the normal option of blocking or ignoring people. Even SRF does. If that's too much hassle finding other sites isn't hard. BUT you're looking over the key thing here. These people are using the internet as an 'escape' from real life? Face your problems and take action. Therein lies your real problem..If that's not an option you shouldn't be superimposing yourself over the internet anyway (see boxxy).

I used to get bullied too, thing is, a person just needs to learn to ignore it, the bullies get bored eventually, and find someone else to bother. Especially when the person they're bugging seems to have no reaction whatsoever to any of the insults or pushing and stuff.

One thing I understand, and CeLL needs to too, is that some people react differently to bullying than others. Some take it and take it, then re-enact Columbine. Others give it right back, others ignore it, and others it actually hurts. Learn to keep an open mind...
