^This reminds me. I'm kinda for corporal punishment(I have a little girl so wouldn't do it anyways) and my wife is way against it. But when she was released from the hospital after giving birth, we were walking out and these two little black boys were running around. They couldn't have been older than 4-5 and their mom came along and pulled a stick off a near by tree and started smacking the littlest ones ass, she musta hit him about 15x. My wife about lost it.

I don't know about doing that to your dog, but a good smack that makes it stop should suffice. Also when you do this make sure to say something like NO! STOP! or w/e so later you can just use that word without the smack.

To teach the kid between right and wrong. Not all parents are the same, but on the same coin, not all kids are the same. Some kids don't need their ass spanked, some do. Again, there is a difference between teaching your kid right from wrong with a firm spanking on the butt, and beating the shit out of your kid because you are mad at what he did.

Tell me why it's wrong, IYO.

Ok I will. Lets take a very common grocery store example to start.

Mom/kid at register.
Kid wants some candybar starts whining.
Mom says No.
Kid whines even more.
This can repeat several times.
Mom will eventually get angry and spank child.
Now, the same kid goes to school, playground etc.
Somebody makes him mad. What will he mostly likely do now?
Hit the child, because its what mommy did when she got mad at the child.

It basically supports tendences of hypocrisy and doing the exact opposite of what your trying to do. It will work short term but in the long term can have negative affects.

Heres another example

Take a kid1/kid2/mom
Kid 1 hits Kid 2, mom spanks kid1 for hitting.
What did the mom just do? Hit the kid for hiting someone else and trying to teach not to hit others, when she herself just hit the child.

Those examples may have some truth to them... but that doesn't explain why the kids that don't get spanked still act like that. I have a friend who spanks his child when they do something wrong. His child minds. They were staying over at another friend's house and his kid doesn't get spanked. His kid would hit and bite friend"1"'s kid. When friend1 went to spank friend2's child he said "NO I don't do that." The kid continued acting this way, so they left. Needless to say the kid was and still is a little brat.

So I don't think spanking and not spanking has anything to do with if your kid is going to hit another kid when he's mad. It's every parent's choice and I'm not going to tell anyone how they should raise their child. This is just what I believe to be true from my life experience.

My parents never spanked me or anything when I was little. Though I dislike being yelled at, so I would usually stop. I'm one of the least violent people in my whole school. My friends would probably be very surprised if I hit someone. Sure I may dislike or hate someone, but generally we leave each other alone.

QFT. It shows that the parents are too lazy to discipline their child, so they take the quick and easy way out with physical discipline.

If I was going to get horse-sized dogs, I would get a tasteful breed: siberian huskies, german shepherds, dobermans, etc.

You're Canadian aren't you? So Siberian Huskies would be ok for you. For those of us in the states, or those in the southern states especially, it can be far too warm for Huskies. German Shepherds however... <3 My favorite kind of dog.
