i would like opinions.

I enjoy reading and acquiring whatever knowledge I can fit in my gigantic head. Despite this I find that having a 14 month old and a 6 year old doesn’t allow me time or ability to just sit down and read as I woul like. So I recently started acquiring audiobooks to listen to at work rather than music. Im currently listening to the godfather, a movie I never bothered to watch, but find the story quite enjoyable.

So what do you guys think about audiobooks vs and actual books.

I would take regular reading over audio books, the fact that they read fucking slow drives me crazy.

My reason for not so doesn't really apply to you, but I can't do audio books because most of the people that do them, I can't understand. Plus, I like to read at my own pace and not the glacial pace of audio books.

I prefer to read the book, but if its an author reading it, it sometimes seems better... for me anyways. If I had to choose tho I'd pick my uncle to tape himself reading it first and I listen to it after! He's amazing at telling stories.

I thought audio books would be a good idea for listening to while I drive. Not so.. I don't retain the information as well as traditional reading and most of the time I zone out. If I'm going to take the time to sit and listen to them, I'd rather just read the book.

i prefer reading it myself but if the reader is good the experience can be about the same

I find reading a book to be more than simply acquiring the information about it. Reading a book is all about the experience; the environment you place yourself in, the escape form reality, the acquiring of information at your own pace, the imagination you put into the book (whenever I read each character speaking, I read them with a tone of voice inside my head that sounds what I think they'd sound like if they existed). Most of all, the sensation of reading feels so nostalgic. The smell of the paper, the fine binding, the ever slight creases in a page: it all adds to it. That feeling can't be supplemented by technology in my eyes.

Audio books are never as good as reading a book.

When you read a book you can imagen what inflection the character is using
or how they say a word a certain way. By doing this you relate more to the
character as you are using your own perspective to build up theirs, and
how they are.
Where as for an audio book, this is done for you and as such loses the
personal and intimate feeling one can obtain from reading a book and
making a character ones own.

omg if I wanted to do something educational and also LISTEN to it, I should actually be lying on the bottom of a river.

+ I'll miss half when listening because I zone out most of the time while listening to something. especially something as monotonous as someone reading a book to me.

Unless they do the voices. I like it when they have the voices.
