PC wont start up, (getting software back. HELP!)

Post by satman83 »

Hey

Well am writing this on my crappy old laptop because yesterday as i turned off my PC
i got an automatic windows update, and it installed fine up until it got to 90% and then
my PC just turned off :palm:

And now i cant get past the boot up screen (only get up to the windows screen with
that bar that loads up right before password input), i have tried to fix the problem
which diagnosed the problem as being a driver that didnt install correctly, but it
couldnt fix said problem.

And before its mentioned i dont have a start up disk or vista install disk...my PC
never came with one, everything was already installed  :soosad: :palm:
thought about calling Microsoft but am sure i can solve this problem before phoning
those monkeys

i feel like i read about a patch microsoft released to counter a virus...its solution was you couldn't start up windows. From my understanding they fix'd it in a later patch but that was awhile ago so don't think it would affect you now =/

sorry i'm not much help

Can you boot it up with safe mode?

If you can try start it up in safe and use system restore.

You probably do. And is there still a warranty on the pc? If yes just bring it to the shop you've bought it. No stress for you :)

Get a Windows 7 disk. When you upgrade it will move all your old files to windows.old, archiving everything.

If you install Vista on top of Vista you will be forced to reformat, as far as I remember.

When you did the update did you have an external hdd conected to your computer? If so might wana try pluging it in, before starting up, or just try a few combinations...

Same exact thing happened with my laptop, same story, same problem, black screen after boot, dont wana go to log in screen e.t.c and i noticed my external HDD was pluged in, so i played around tried to start my pc with and without the hdd and i finally got it to work...

Hope that this will help.. otherwise good luck

system restore, use it.

should be f8 or f10 or something of the sort to give you a list of boot up options, choose recovery console.

Tried that, doesnt work. It tells me that i have no previous system restore points
and the other options are useless as well.

Found the fix, seems a certain registry file has to be deleted for Windows 7 to
install

in case something happens to your computer.. xD
