Starting a Blog

Hey guys,

So i got to start a blog for a project, and i was wondering if anyone here had some previous blogging experience, and with what blogging service.

Of course i know about blogspot, but i was wondering if anyone had any other ideas/suggestion.

Preferably one that is free, but if there is a small fee then that is all good.

I've heard good things about http://www.squarespace.com/ but it isn't free. It's about $10 a month afaik.

Also, what kind of themes/topics would people like to see in a blog?

Like what do you think would be well received by a General Population, doesn't have to be World Wide pop, just a general pop.

What type of blog would you visit Daily/Weekly/Often?

Daily to often is the way to go, IMO. Blogs that only update weekly might be good when you're concentrating on lets say anime, which gets realesed weekly. Otherwise I'd try to post up new stuff each 2 days, it will keep the readers attention on the blog and will give you a certain rythm.

Haha, lucky me :p What I think is very good, are thing like "Did you know" and "OMG-Facts" maybe put one or two of them into each of your post and maybe make that one of your trademarks?
Uhmm, topics.. I'd read about everything aslong as the text is styled in a interesting way.

For those who have used Wordpress, do you think it's easy for a non pro? Square Space has an amazing Usability, but it looks like Wordpress has more of a expandability and freedom. However, maintenance is much higher, and if you mess up, you could be screwed royally.

I use wordpress myself, though it seems I use it for a different reason than you will be using it for.

As far as usability goes, it's so very simple to use. There's a bunch of pre-made style sheets you an apply to your blog page, adding/editing posts is very easy and comments are easy to monitor, too.

As far as the population of wordpress is concerned, this is where we differ. I've never tried to make my blog reach other people, that wasn't really my intent with it. Two close friends of mine know of my wordpress and that's all I want it to stay at. If you wanted to share your blog with the rest of the internetz, than I'm not sure how much success you'd have.

Despite that though, I think you shoulf give it a shot. It's surprisingly easy to use.
