A few humans have reported saying they can see into the UV. They describe it as a different version of purple. Who knows if it's true or not. Not like we can see it.

Been wondering about this as well. What about the colourblind people? They always thought they saw Red, when in reality it was Green for example.

It makes sense because cat for example can see invisible color such as ghosts and spirits.

The problem with this thought experiment is that in order to draw a logical conclusion about the way in which our minds perceive an object; we can't doubt our ability to think logically. But by doing so, we are creating a paradox in which we eliminate the possibility of an alteration of the way our mind perceives the world to be incorrect. Our ability to rationalize and draw conclusion from a neutral standpoint relies solely upon the fact that our brains can think logically and rationally, without interference.

I will explain myself a bit better using a modification of your scenario and apply it with real life plausibility. A person, lets name him Fred, interprets the world differently to the way that "we" interpret it. Why, though? Because Fred has a mental illness in which his brain creates hallucinations and changes the way his eyes and brain perceives reality. When we hear a strike 4 times, we "know" its 4 o'clock. Though Fred thinks "That's funny, the clock just struck 1 o'clock four times!”

Plausible, is it not? A simple scenario where we open ourselves up to the possibility that someone, due to a mental condition, perceives the world in a different manner to our own. Seeing different colors, hearing clock chimes, it's a misinterpretation of reality. But in order for us to make judgment on this issue and to rationally say that Fred perceives the world different to us, we have to conclude that our minds are rational enough to make such a decision and such a judgment whilst maintaining their ability to think rationally.

But wait a minute, how do we know we aren't the ones who are perceiving reality to be incorrect? Maybe the clock did strike 1 o'clock four times, and we simply "thought" it was 4 o'clock. If we accept the possibility of Fred's reality to be incorrect, than how can be prove that what we perceive is actually "true"? And if we start doubting our ability to think rationally and perceive reality, how can we ourselves make a rational judgment on anyone perceiving reality in what it’s "meant" to be?

And this is why I love this thought challenge. To accept it, we must accept the fact that our minds are rational and without fault. But doing so opens us to the possibility of our reality being incorrect and our judgment being false. But if we accept the possibility that our judgment may be false, how can we make a rational judgment on the perception of reality from both our own and another person's reality? Thinking, it's a great thing.

None of that may have made much sense, but yeah, I suck with words. Or so, I think I do. How do I really know, though?

Dum dum dum!

Edit: But really, you do sum up my point entirely? How do we really know what happens? Fact of the matter is, we don't. We have to accept our versions of reality to be correct and accept our minds ability to think rationally, or else we can question the existence of everything. And in my opinion, there's just too many things to be questioning ><

I've had that question years ago too, with everything really.. Must be some internetz thing I guess..

But like said before, this is like the question about the tree falling on a woman in the forest, in which the real question is, how did the forest get into the kitchen?

I understand the points you and others are making, but it's just like you said, we have to accept that our versions of what is real and what isn't are rational thoughts. I agree, otherwise there would be just too many things to be questioning in this life. Too much, at least, for me to be worried about.

before knowing that earth is not flat, people had thoughts like "what's after that sea, more sea?, and what's after more sea, maybe heaven, maybe hell, ...etc, and now we know what's after that sea
after a long time every question like that will have an answer, and it will be more simple than we think.
the more we know, more people won't believe in god, proving with science that it's just an idea from someone wanted to control the humanity in the name of god

Doubt that more people will doubt the existence of a god. People still need something to put their mind on in different situation. Like if they need some advise on something they can look up and ask God for guidance, then he will see that somewhere because he believes that God put that there to guide him into the right direction.

To put this simple. You call someone a mental illness because they are living in a world dominated by normal people. But if you live in a world dominated by mental illness people, they'll call themself "normal" and treat you as a "mental illness" one, whether you argue the "logic" or with "rational evidence" or not not. Because their version of logic is different with our version of logic.

The idea of reality and perception are relative.

The point of life is not to prove who is right, who is wrong. The point is can you live happily in a community with the current knowledge or not. The idea of God gives people faith, hope in a better life, an eternal life. Before a relative of you die, you'd tell him he'd move to a better place, not tell him he'd be changed into an empty vacuum. The truth hurts, there are cases you better lying than telling the truth. There are things you better keep it unknown than discover its truth.

I thought this once too, but then I realized how utterly complex everything and everyone else is. Things that don't even matter to you happen without your knowledge. It'd be a waste of resources in a Matrix scenario, and it'd be a waste of effort otherwise.

People could also be content with a far less complex existence, what we have is too much to be just for one of us.

Well, I believe my red is your red (Unless you are colour blind), but I have always wondered what blind people see (I know nothing, but what they think different things are) But I figured that blind people would dream the same as us, I guess they just percieve things differently because they only know what things are from oter people's perspective. Meh, anyone know a blind person, and ask them what they think the colour red is.

It depends, not all blind people have been blind from birth. I knew a blind man who was blinded in his 40s and I knew a woman who was blind from birth. They were both very different. The man knew what colors were and could tell you what color shirt he wanted to wear, or even ask what color car someone had and make a judgment. The woman... well, she was blind from birth and I never talked to her about colors, but I can only imagine it doesn't matter if all you see is nothing.

~side note~ That blind man was the one who taught me how to drive :sohappy:

Also, just because someone is color blind doesn't mean they see in black&white, most color blind people just can't tell the differences between two colors. Doesn't mean they can't see that color.

I've likewise always had that thought. I always wondered if the Colors i see, were the same in terms of Visual Representation as others, and not just as Acknowledged representation.

I guess what best sums up this entire thread is.

I don't see how that image has anything to do with the idea of whether people see the same thing when it comes to colors.
