Which HDD should i pick?

Post by Sylar »

So I have to buy a new laptop for my studies next year.
I'm planning on buying one of the DV7 series of HP.
There are two almoast the same laptops, but one has a:
- 500 GB SATA HARD DRIVE 7200 RPM
and the other has a:
- 750 GB SATA HARD DRIVE 5400 RPM

is the RPM important, becuase the 250GB extra gigabytes would be useful.
Thanks :)

I consider rpm only important for games year 2007+, to load all the textures and stuff, but if you not gaming or designing any form of media the 750gb be good, but at the same time why would u need 750gb?

I'm not going to use it for gaming but maybe i'll need it for designing
i could use the 750 GB for all the movies and music I have.
Right now i only have 300 GB movies and music but next month i won't have any downloading limit anymore (finally!!) so it will get a lot faster above the 500 GB :)

What cache do they have? Its better to have one with high cache rather than low cache and higher capacity.

I went from a 7200 320GB to a 5400 1TB on my laptop and haven't noticed a difference, except for not running out of HD space (so far).

A laptop's gaming abilities are limited, I don't think it's very realistic that the RPM would play a big role since you aren't blazing cats in the first place.

He meant the HDD cache, which is normally 8-16MB on laptops.

You won't notice a difference most likely, and if you do it won't be much. Go for more hdd space. More RPM also generally means more heat, again probably not noticeable.
