CPU 100% all the time[Win7]

Post by srf_frs »

My pc shows that CPU is constantly 100% since yesterday. I haven't noticed significant drop in speed or performance. I think it was okay since I tried to install old game yesterday, which i am 99% sure wasnt virus(anyways I deleted it, and run avg, everything was normal). I have tried several tutorials and yes I have googled it, nothing has worked so far. Any help would be appreciated.

Pretty much fresh restart:

Folding At Home(FahCore_78.exe)jumped out at me. This is most likely causing it.

Also could you move the tab that says memory over slightly because your blocking the tab that shows what % the programs are using of the processor.

Try Google some of the processes that you don't what what program that they are connected to, if that turns up to be nothing then, try ending processes one by one (most likely the one that is using the most memory at the time) and see what happens. Usually if my compy is runnin slow and I check my proceses I just do that and usually a virus comes up (that my checker failed to detect for some reason) and I look up ways to get rid of in on google

TL"DR Google your processes
6 truths
1.You cannot touch all your teeth with your tongue.
2.All idiots, after reading truth 1, will try it.
3.And discover that the first truth is a lie.
4.You're smiling now because you're an idiot.
5.You soon will forward this to another idiot.
6.There's still a stupid smile on your face.

What's with all the iexplore.exe processes?

I'd guess that's the problem, unless you have a ton of browser windows open.

Closing FahCore cut CPU usage to about 50% for like a minute, now it's 100% again, I very barely use IE. Should I delete all FahCores?

If you want to clean your computer or even prevent your computer from running some annoying processes download Ccleaner.(Google it! ;)) I'm a complete noob at computers etc. but I can easily manage this little program and it keeps my pc(and my parents!) clean.

It's something created by a college group, where you download a bit of software (or go into it on PS3). What they do, is they use the processing power of thousands of computers + PS3 to help them do research on various things.

There is something called google you know... http://folding.stanford.edu/

one thing I suggest you do as well

Start > type msconfig > go to startup tab > uncheck all the crap you dont need to startup. this goes for all updaters + adobe crap and w/e else you can find there that isn't important for the system to work.

Like MrJoey said, it's a program run on millions of computers and uses spare cpu cycles to process "work units". It's a huge distributed computing project run by Stanford to research protein folding which can be the cause of many different diseases.

I used to be hardcore into folding. It's addicting because you get points for work units, the more you do the higher your points and the higher you 'PPD', points per day. Lots of major computer forums have F@H teams, EOCF has a page dedicated to F@H rankings. It's a huge competition that benefits science/research. At one time I had all my friends and families pc's hijacked to run F@H.

There are multiple F@H programs. One for the CPU and one for GPU. If you have a dual core or quad core and only run 1 CPU client, it will not max out your CPU. If you run the GPU version, it wont really touch your CPU at all.

OP uninstall F@H or disable it from starting up when the PC does.
