The reason why Calf Roping is a sport now is because in the old west or even now Ranchers have to do these sorts of things to get their calves tied down to give them medicine in the form of pills or a shot, and you have to get it done quick or else momma cow is going to come after you.

I understand with medication reason etc, probably the safest way of doing it. But I just don't agree with the sport/entertainment side of.
