SSD

Post by [SD]Master_Wong »

Iv bought myself an SSD, my use is a boot drive but i want to put some of my more activly used programs on it but what else should i put on it to increase overall speed, iv put anything that loads at start-up on it and going to put a couple of games on it. my browser been the most used thing is ofc on it. i only have 60gb to play with though so any other suggestions.

side note with login i can load it all up in 35seconds, recon i could get it to 32/33 if i dont have a password.

Seriously though. I'd put everything that you would use often. MSN, steam, etc etc. Unless you bought a small SSD then well maybe not steam.

...
you are really fuckin stupid you know that?

one thing fraps requires for better recording fps is a faster HDD. You don't leave them on the SSD after you record, you move it. The point is to get better FPS. Use your god damn brain.

jeez i only mildly insulted you, you didnt need to go all out, im a lot more tech savvy then 'really Farking stupid'. I dont use fraps anyways and its only a small hdd and again let me explain saving lots of small files to an ssd isnt smart it works better as a boot drive constantly writing and rewriting to it will reduce its life drastically, meaning if i use fraps a lot its not really worth the cost. An ssd excels in been used as a boot drive where you load programs and your os, not for saving lots of files to, main reason iv set it up to use my documents and download folders on another drive and programs that dont need speed also on another drive. mr your really Farking stupid

i may have made that sound worse then it is, with TRIM on windows 7 its life is extended but non the less it will reduce its life and considering the price of it thats the last thing you want to do.

yeh i worked out a list in the end of stuff that speed is useful on and things that dont matter, at first i put all my security stuff on it but seeing as i dont often do scans only my antivirus and firewall stayed rest got moved, didnt notice much speed difference in wow so figured id just move that off as its 20gb of files.

so now i only have things that are startup programs
