Computer doesn't boot after the 'Acer window'

Hi all, since I did not see a specific computer thread I decided to put it down here.
I bought my acer a year ago, and never had problems with it, untill now. From one day to another it gave me a blank screen. I get to the point where it gives me the 'Acer window' where I can acces the BIOS or Boot menu (Del and F12) if I want to. After this screen a full black screen pops up with only a white underscore ( _ ). This only stays there for a second or 2 and then my screen stays black. I waited for hours but it didn't startup. I already tried plugging it out and in again(which worked yesterday, now it doesn't). I've also removed all USB cables, mouse cables, internet cables etc and tried booting. This didn't work either. Any ideas guys?

have you tried safe mode? (i think thats f8)

if that doesnt work then it looks like something happened with windows and you have to reinstall windows

EDIT: try to put it your windows disk and repair windows before completely reinstalling.


or your hard drive failed but i highly doubt that since its only a year old.

Does you hard drive make any kind of sound like a long beep or something?

Only makes the normal short beep.
Problem is, I thought about putting the windows disc in too. But apparantly Acer doesn't give you any windows disc with the computer you buy -_- To make things worse, I have 3 windows vista 32bit discs, but this computer is a 64bit. Should I just shove in the 32 disc?

you could, but i dont think the repair would work, a reinstall would work fine though.

No, won't work

U should be able to acces a special partition made by Acer.
(on my HP laptop it show: Press F11 for Emergency Recovery just after it boots)
I also did that once on my mom's laptop (Acer)
It holds the clean install of the laptop (factory settings)
U should also be able to do a system recovery from there.

Important distinction (at least for me) is does the hard drive light flash at all while it's black?

Oh and about the HD, I heard it is spinning, but there is no special light for it on the computer

I'm really not sure if this helps, but have you tried going to the bios and setting 'boot from hard disk'?

Hmm ok, I'm just going to deliver it to the shop where I got it. The warranty only expired 4 days ago like I just checked.

i've spotted your problem, you're using an acer.
