so i have a dilemma here

Post by Amarisa »

my Xbox 360 is overheating like a mad man why idk. the warranty is up but it still under the one where if i get the 3 rings of death. i haven't gotten the 3 rings only 2 but my choices are.

make the 3 rings appear then send it in
send it to microsoft to get it repaired (trying to get it for free)
fix it myself by opening it and cleaning out the dust and fix the heatsinks

what would you guys do in my situation? my xbox is close to 3 years old and this is the first issue its had. its still in very good condition all that junk.

i doubt this is in the wrong section but if it is my bad

Dur.

Sounds like someone needs to suck it up then. I hope you try and fix it and break it more all while voiding the warranty.

sadly I opened it up before the warranty was up but here is the problem...... its fixed

Sounds to me like you're just trying to beat the system. Man up and buy a new Xbox if yours isn't under warranty.

to be honest i won't buy another xbox i never play it. not worth the trouble of spending money on something i don't use. only reason why i am trying to keep this one going is because i got it for a present. i would like to use the xbox now and then to play some game or use my own at a lan party.

yes i am trying to beat the system who doesn't? not my fault microsoft made a faulty product by rushing it. i just had good luck and never had mine break but the shit ton of those that do.

One thing you could try is the reverse fix for the red rings.

Might work the other way around. Wrap it in a towel and let it run for 10-15 minutes. Rinse repeat.

the problem is i have an overheating problem so causing the xbox to overheat to extreme levels will not only cause more problems but probably melt shit inside.

Towel trick it till it dies then send it in.

In fact, call M$ now, it takes a while to get the box to you.

yea i am sure i could remove the x clamps and replace the thermal paste all that good stuff with no problem. but i am still unsure if i should i mean if i break the seal will microsoft still repair it for $100 or are they going to say you broke the seal we will no longer fix it? that is if something goes wrong.

i replaced the thermal paste for my gpu and built my own computer i am sure an xbox would be any different.

If you open warranty is void.

Every company wants to save $$$, they will try to find an excuse not to fix your 360.
Don't risk it if you can get a new one for free

They don't give you new ones, I believe they give you refurbished ones. You probably won't get YOUR xbox back, and theres a good chance it will rrod again.

Yeah it will take a while for them to send the box out to you... seeing they don't send you a box anymore.

I've had both my 360s RROD... First one they sent the box... 2nd I found out 2 months of waitin for the box that they no longer send it, and I'd have to get my own. (Thank you Rep that said the box is on it's way)

Anyways, you should check into a local gaming repair shop. They usually will fix a 360 in a day and for around 20-40 bucks. Depending on the issue/s may cost more. Cheaper than what MS will charge you if they decide you aren't covered under the warranty.

I wouldn't call this "beating the system" since I'm sure MS has made way more profit off faulty/rushed equipment/software than any pirate or modder will ever get out of them.

well since this is a xbox thread i'll post something really quickly
so my birthday is coming and i was thinkin should i buy the new xbox 360 slim(costs 300$)? or should i wait till end of summer and see if all the problems have been solved( usually 1st edition of things always suck and need adjustments). OR buy the regular 360 thats only like 150 bucks?

Just get a can of compressed air, open up the xbox and get rid of the dust with the compressed air. It will probably be the quickest way, since I hear Microsoft doesn't rush their services.

Opening the box voids the Red Rings warranty.

Like I said...wrap it in a towel. The majority of all Red Rings cases is because the solder on the chips breaks or comes loose. Wrapping it in a towel reheats the solders allowing them to possibly reconnect. It could the reverse effect on your Xbox. Could heat them enough so that they come disconnected and you get red rings.

Send it in saying it's red rings lol. That's what I did when it overheated, and some weird video stuff happened. Got it back good as new, no problems since.

(1) Go to Walmart
(2) Buy an xbox and pay cash
(3) In your car, open the box and put in your old xbox and take the new one
(3)(*) Ensure not to tear the box and keep everything in good condition
(4) Return to the store immediately and tell them your mom just called you, she already bought one for your brother's birthday (Christmas works better if you wait a couple weeks)
