One of the few TED movies that I've actually watched to the end. Usually it's stuff that's supposed to be interesting, but actually really isn't.
For some reason I also expected him to make quite some money from 4chan, but I failed to realize that porn and all other sins may ward off advertisers. Still, he must be making some money off it?

not really. Like he said the porn advertisements he gets is probably enough to keep the site up and some money on the side but he's not gonna be makin it rain anytime soon.

Overall it was an interesting talk and gave some insight on to why he keeps the site up. Really theres no way anyone can honestly defend 4chan without looking like a racist, arrogant, misogynistic, ignorant, piece of garbage but he did an ok job. That so many people gather on the internet and when given the chance to be, or pretend to be, anyone they can, they choose to be all of the things above...theres no way you can cast that in a positive light. He knows it. The guy interviewing him knows it. He still managed to point out some of its finer moments...every once in awhile, in a very rare moment i'll find /b/ doing something admirable and i'll tip my hat because i realize that only on /b/ could something like that have been organized and executed...that doesn't make me forget that 90% of the site is terrible but im glad someone like him runs it, though i have a feeling if he ever tried to tighten his grip he'd just suffer tons of backlash but that doesn't seem like his intent anyway...

It costs money to operate servers(a/c, electricity, bandwidth, maintenance).

I make it a point to click on all the advertisements at least once a day. If every anon did the same, it should help moot out a little bit.

If moot was in it for the money he could always ask for donations and there are thousands willing to donate like $10 to him. Which it doesn't seem like he is in it for the money.

Do you realize how much bandwidth is used just for /b/? How many people browse it during the hour? You cannot just buy a cheap server and a domain and expect it to run perfectly fine. Yeah maybe when he first started it, but now? No way.
