US Presidency
US Presidency
Uhmmm, Its known that you have to be born in the US to become a US citizen.
I was wondering, why can't the constitution be changed to allow anyone that spent XX number of years in the United States to become president.
Lets say you have 2 kids.
One was born in USA.
The other was born in England but moved to the USA when he was 2 months old.
They both grow up and they are both intellectual equals.
What makes the "natural" American boy more important than the brit-tard?
Yes I am an immigrant to USA.
I've often dreamed of becoming a US Pres as a kid, then I learned of the horrible clause that forbids it.

In Australia, you can become a citizen, without any restrictions other than having a criminal record etc. Idk lols, correct me if I'm wrong. But yeah, I agree. I also don't like the presidency system in America where you can only have a maximum sentence of what, 3 years or something ? So you get a bad president, and he has to stay for atleast 3 years, but in Australia, if you get a bad Prime Minister, he can be voted out after 1 year I think. I think the same goes for UK.

Being born in the US is not the only way to become a US citizen. Check this link if you want more info: http://www.expertlaw.com/library/immigr ... ation.html
But yes, the president does have to be born a US citizen. Why? This is America

Because: If you are born in the country, you have a tie that is really hard to ignore. No matter what, there's a higher chance that that person will want the best for the country he was born in.
If you are born in another country and move to the US, who knows if you're some trained spy who's purpose to to penetrate the government, than take it over and corrupt the country and send it into obvlivion.
That's the main reasoning behind it.

You're probably right, but it sounds a bit farfetched. I know that could happen, but what are the chances ?

Re: US Presidency
If you weren't born in the US, tough luck.
I'm not personally sure why it is the way it is, but I'd guess it has a lot to do with the idea that we really only want true Americans for president.
Now if you got shafted by being born while your American parents were on vacation, I dunno, there's probably a loophole somewhere.

Impeachment. I believe Nixon was suppose to be impeached, but just resigned. idunno
Re: US Presidency
The reason you have to be native to the United States is because they didn't want someone from lets say the UK to be voted in after they just won their independence.
A president of the United States serves for 4 years. They can also be reelected for another 4 years. The maximum is 8 years total or two terms.
To answer Heosphoros Nixon resigned before they could impeach him.

His charges was also dropped thanks to pardon from his new vice president, Gerald Ford.

Maximum is 10 years actually. To get 10 years you have to become president when you're a Vice President for 2 years(Anymore it's considered a term) then go up again for your first term then 2nd.

Yes there is, but I don't think that is a loop hole. For example John McCain was born while his parents were stationed outside the country. As for a vacation not a chance.. at least that I know of.

Yea they got something for people who were born in military stations outside of US, but I don't think vacations count.

Re: US Presidency
When I first read the intro I thought this was going to be about Arnold 'Governator' Schwarzenegger becoming president.
Shit does not get more amusing than having a guy like Arnold being your governor. I still remember the news reporter chuckling when he reported it.

IMO Arnold has been doing a good job, especially when comparing to other American polititians.

Re: US Presidency
I'm not saying he's doing a bad job (idk if he's doing a good job either), I'm just saying he's Arnold Schwarzenegger.. the Terminator. I'll trade JP for a Presinator any day, but you have to admit that it's pretty funny that their governor is a beefcake actor.
When you check one of his movies where he barely speaks English and all he does is kick ass it's pretty funny that he's now the most important man in California.

He worked hard, he might have wanted to become a governor before he was an actor / body builder. Idk lols, but meh, when you put in hard work, you're bound to get something out of it.

Re: US Presidency
For those confused on the matter: to be eligible to become a U.S President, you have to be a naturalized citizen; meaning being born on U.S Soil. You can be born outside of the country, but it has to be on U.S soil for you to be considered naturalized.
OT: The constitution could be amended to say otherwise, but the people would never let that happen. The general thing is: "who wants a 'foreigner' to govern/represent them?" Foreigner is in quotations because said person/people could have been originally born elsewhere, but lived their entire life in the U.S; however, most would still consider them foreigners after learning of their origins.

Ronald Reagan was an actor too before becoming governor of CA, then president of US (one of the most successful too)
i think you can also become a natural born US citizen if both your parents are US citizens but were living outside for the time (not permanent residency.

No, natural born means naturally born in the U.S, or on U.S territory. If your parents are U.S citizens, but you're born outside of the country (off U.S territory), you can become a citizen, but you won't be considered a naturalized citizen (basically, it's citizenship from location not lineage; gotta be considered a citizen upon birth, not your parent's citizenship).

We should stop treating people like objects, or at least treat our objects with more respect.
