Ubermensch?

Post by Burningwolf »

Is a Übermensch a sociopath?

I just started getting into philosophy (mostly through Wiki...), I personally think an Ubermensch is not a sociopath. But I'm not gonna argue that point since I'm still an infant in philosophy ;_;

So in your opinion is he a sociopath, please don't answer yes/no but give details ( I seriously want to see other ideas bout this subject)

No. That's the general english translation.
I think its the general interpretation of Nietzsche that deems whether superman is a sociopath or not.
IMO, there is no definite sociopathy, as it's just a philosophical idea.
Well, he creates new values, but it's partially justified. So that's a good question.

You might as well call people who wish to succeed and be everything they can be sociopaths.

According to that wiki page:
Zarathustra first announces the Übermensch as a goal humanity can set for itself. All human life would be given meaning by how it advanced a new generation of human beings.

You could even say that people today could be seen as ubermenschen to people from ancient times, considering all of the advances we have made since then. It's a progressive thing, people are already "artificially" selecting rather than naturally.

but
"We" didn't create this new society, we were just born into it, we would be Ubermensch if we created some new order in this society.
Notice how many of us just follow the norm and really don't care in bring great change.

"We" in the general sense of course, from the perspective of ancient peoples.

A lot of us think we're doing nothing important but think about how many things we take for granted that a lot of people not even 50 years ago had.

What I am arguing is that we are not the ubermensch, the great people who led to the changes creating our society were.
Yeah there were changes from the last 50 years, last 100 years etc. but we were not the ones who caused them, we didn't envision it, we didn't create the new norm, we just followed.
We are just embracing what they gave us. (<- does that even make sense?)
