Re: Do you believe in fate..?
fate for me means if you are fat, you will be fat forever, or if you are stupid, you'll be stupid forever. i dont believe that, I think if you work hard enough, you can change anything. there is no pre-determined path, its the choices you make (like twilliger said)

Nothing is under anyone's control. It's all about physic. Atom A interacts with atom B, B interacts with C, etc...
Every trajectory of an atom is predefined : if A touches B, then A goes this way, B goes that way, etc...

Re: Do you believe in fate..?
Predefined is the wrong wordage there, but you can argue (easily) that due to former causes, the motion of said atom is predictable.

"I am a determinist. ...The real issue, so far as the will is concerned, is not whether we can do what we choose to do, but whether we can choose our own choice, whether the choice itself issues in accordance with law from some antecedent." - Brand Blanshard
From another forum, sums up the position of free will pretty well. In order to prescribe to free will you must also prescribe to something beyond the physical laws of the universe:

We are chemical reactions, reacting to external physical stimuli in predictable ways. No matter how pretty the outcome is, the reality remains.
There is no way that the chemical complexes which give rise to our brain are able to 'choose' which interaction to do next. Chemicals behave like chemicals. If you want to believe you have a 'choice' in the matter, than you are proposing that there is some force which alters physical reality.
I love this topic.

Re: Do you believe in fate..?
Every story has a beginning, a middle, and an ending. So far we're not sure what the beginning was on the universal level but obviously it happened because we're in the middle. To me fate is about the ending. Be it personal or universal the story has to end and so all things work towards that ending, whatever it may be.
If you agree that time is an illusion created by our inability to experience everything at once then technically the ending is set in stone. Because of this theory everything we do is set in stone as well. I don't think that means we don't have a choice though. It doesn't matter to me if anyone knows what choice I'm going to make before I make it all that matters is that I made a choice.
So i've established a loose theory that the story has an ending and freewill is possible even if the ending is already determined. Fate or Destiny or whatever would be the middle then. The outcome is determined and everything works towards it so everything is fated or destined whether you succeed or fail it was already determined, thats just how the story goes. That doesn't mean you shouldn't work hard and do your best because we can't experience time as whole and we live in a very limited plane of existence. As far as we should be concerned our day to day choices and the random elements we encounter are whats important. Whether they matter or effect things on the universal level should be the concerns of a higher level being if one exist...

PureOwnage; wonder that happened to him, probably wasn't fate though. If A bans B then B goes away, if N acts like B, wonder that happens next. Personally I dunno, out of my control if atoms happen to press a series of buttons for me, would be unfortunate.

Re: Do you believe in fate..?
fate means that you have no control over your life
you are just a puppet doing what you meant to do , thinking that you have choice
it's not my fate to write this post , i like the thread and i wanted to replay , i can easily change my mind and leave the thread , turn off everything

An illusion of free will. You could have not replied, but you didn't.
All forces (electrochemical in your brain and otherwise) compelled you to reply, they over powered the influences to NOT reply. Did you truly decide or was it already decided for you?

Re: Do you believe in fate..?
hey can you also call a theory as fate???
since some theory is bound to happen, and fate (base on what I understand) is also bound to happen then:
Theory = fate .... correct me if i'm wrong
