This is fear what you're talking, what most people think, they don't even think of doing good, they just do it because they'll get "punished"

It's called deterrence. It's nothing some torture/jailtime can't handle.

Thats disgusting, but you have to remember that no one walking by knew that the homeless guy saved the woman's life, they might have just thought he was was gangster who died in a gang fight. i'd still call 911 though...

As soon as people realize there's no such thing as "good" or "bad" morality, perhaps humanity can finally take a step forward; however, before then we'll be stuck trying to figure out who's "right" and who's "wrong" when there really isn't anyone who is.

OT: Yeah, I'd stop and help the man. I've stopped and helped people I didn't know off the side of the road before; this wouldn't be much different, beside the urgency of need of help.

We should stop treating people like objects, or at least treat our objects with more respect.

Stop complaining or whining. It's no one's fault. It's all about determinism. They left the wounded man because some atoms in their brain made them do so, they never had a choice, all are predefined by atom interaction :sohappy:

In my opinion, with today's world, I think some level of basic EMT training should be mandatory for everyone by the time they leave high school. Not only does it promote helping others since you don't feel incompetent in situations like this, but it's just good to know in general.

If he was laying in a pool of blood yeah i'd have stepped in but from what the article says he took awhile to bleed out and the picture shows him wearing alot of baggy clothing. Its possible no one noticed the stab wounds through all of that especially at night. I'm not rude to homeless people but im not a bleeding heart, theres too many of them for that and i've got my own shit to worry about. If i saw a homeless man lying on the pavement i'd assume he was drunk and keep my distance if i could in case he did something stupid, i think most people would and i don't think thats rude or inhumane. Really the only person who should be ashamed is the women he helped because she knew what had happened to them...everyone else can't be faulted for indifference...

That's what some argue, but in any case, a homeless person lying on the street, facedown, not under an awning or anything, I would call 911, not to tell about a stab wound, but a homeless person in distress, or obstructing the sidewalk, or something like that.

@Mc:
Homeless people are like Starbucks in NY, there's one in every corner. So are you going to call 911 everytime you're about to cross the street?

@Goseki:
Lol. I still have a valid CPR certification but I sure as hell would get the fuck out of there as soon as I can since I don't want to be obliged to do mouth-to-mouth to a disgusting hobo. (Obviously not required in this case)

@inky
He was lying close to the street, face down, not like most homeless, who lie against the wall, or on stairs. If anything, I would look a little closer (mind you, not too close), and when I see blood, I would instantaneously call 911
Also, I am from long island, so I go to the city fairly often, so I know what's up.

So you just go over to any homeless people you meet who are laying in awkward positions and inspect them to see if they're ok? I find that extremely hard to believe especially if you live on long island...

I don't live in Queens so I dunno how common it is to see people lying unconscious on the sidewalk.

I'm surprised there hasn't been any "ONLY IN AMERICA" comments yet.

Well, a few things wrong with this snappy remark :)
1. I am not inspecting them, I am not testing their pulse, if he was lying face down almost on the street, that is an indicator that something is a little bit wrong.
2. I would call 911, because as a Long Islander, I rarely see these kinds of things, except in the city, but I am just saying, that 25 people ignoring him, is ridonculous.
3. Not all long islanders are rude/intolerant/indifferent to humanity.

BTW @EvGa I wasn't surprised either :)
