They said the same thing about television and phones when they first became popular, too.

In 20 years it'll be something else that's mundane which people think they're "addicted" to.

Unless you're damaging your own health or others' you have nothing to worry about.

you don't need any professional help.

it's easier for you to find stimulation online because all you gotta do is turn your comp on.

"real life" (let's call it that) can offer better stimulation but it takes way more work, and risks, it can go both ways.

You need to find things that can motivate you to live a life, find what you like, what do you want to be in the future, what are your goals, make friends, discover how people/hobbies/goals in your life can make it exciting and make you feel alive, things like that, there's a life out there for you to live, you just don't know about it yet, living is all about finding things out, and enjoying them the way you can (ofc i don't mean all it's roses, u'll have to work and suffer some times but, it'll all be worth it)

there are a million answers for your question, but this was just what came from my head right now, so here it is, hope it's of any help, let me tell you tho, no one's gonna get their butt off their place but you, you're the one who has to wash your face and decide "alright, i'mma feel useful today!"

Agreed, that and Batman Returns. I watched them almost everyday after school with my cousins to the point where my mom just got fed up with it and "threw them in the garbage"--Bitch made me cry :x . Though I'm sure if I looked through old boxes I would find the VHS's laying around.

So I just finished watching Requim for a Dream finally and it kinda scared me. I'll explain.

The movie is about 4 drug users who eventually end up to where most, almost all, drug addicts end up.

No, I don't do any drugs. But, the movie is more about how 4 people waste/kill/loose their life on something they are addicted to. In their case, they all do drugs.

My fright: That I am doing exactly what they're doing except I'm not doing it with meds or anything, I'm doing it online.

I waste everyday, every free second I have of my life on it. If I'm not on it, I'm either sleeping, in school, or eating. And 90% of the times I'm on it, I shouldn't be on it.

The results to my action similar to heroin/cocaine loosing an arm or diet pills making you go crazy is being jobless, or with a poor paying job; not being able to enter a good college because of my lack of studying skills.

Any thoughts, suggestions? I admit I'm addicted but do you think I need professional help or am I just too much under the impact of the movie and moving fridges :P

Any suggestions to helping me control my online time limitation?

There's many people who experiencing same problem. Ask yourself a question do you really want to socialize with other people. Think about what it would be if you weren't online all the time. I hope i helped

instead of wasting ur time solely on the internet, u need to multitask

it's ok to be online most of the day, but during that time there has to be tons of downtime. during those downtimes, do ur HW, learn something, study something etc.

Your a moron.

Dude just start talking to friends that you know in REAL LIFE.
If you don't feel comfortable going out with real friends that fast then just do it via msn or something, then slowly start to build your social life. At least you realized it before you became some old guy living in their parents basement

you know, most people build a social life because they're actually drawn into it, they're atracted, they get motivated to socialize, they're stimulated when they do so.

It's not like people who have a social life were trying to build one, it just happened, why? Because things just naturally went that way..

To build a social life tho, you got couple choices, you either try to find people who have common things with you and try to see if you can create bonds with them, if they interest you as people or not, or just flirt with girls and try to get a girlfriend.

One advice, go to public gatherings, places where you can make friends without wanting to (you'll naturally end up making friends cause you're forced to communicate in order to do w.e)

That's why you usually make friends within your class at school, or in ur sports team, or whatever.

Sure is members who don't post as much as they used to but really should...in here

OnT: I play WoW alot, and by alot i mean my /played is disgusting. When im not playing WoW im normally on a WoW forums or running gear simulations to see what upgrades i need and whats better for my "rotation", i even dream of WoW...would i consider myself addicted to WoW, not really. Without it i'd be bored out of my mind most of the time and when the time comes and i find something more interesting or time consuming i'll gravitate towards that...

I wouldn't really consider playing any video game an addiction until it starts negatively impacting your life from over play...like you stop eating and shun all human contact for the sake of the raid...then you have a problem...

The difference here between your addiction and theirs is that their addiction is, for one, harmful no matter how much they do it, and for another, is what leads to their ultimate downfall.

They worry so much about trying to achieve that feeling of happiness from their drug that their minds start deteriorating to the point that they are controlled by the urge.

I honestly think the movie is just getting to you. Take a step back and really compare the process of shooting up in your overly-infected arm to spending maybe a little more time on the computer than you should. I think you'll find that the comparison is a little extreme.

Also, you found it in you to make a thread stating your "addiction" which means you recognize it. So you have the mindset to keep yourself from really getting carried away with it.

Just use your head. ily

Oh, and great movie. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is next on my to-do list.

For comparison, I'd like to state one of the laws of psychiatry: "One who is at least partially aware of his supposed 'insanity', is not insane." By no means do I want to make you feel insane. It's just that, having recognized the problem, you're in fact closer to solving it.

Urges are what we are driven by, almost all of the times. If you are finding it hard to figure out what is right, and what you should or should not be doing, take a step back. And don't look for answers, if you don't have the right questions. Blindly looking for answers takes you nowhere. Look for the right questions first.

Then, grow. Good luck.
