I think it's really awesome, it looks great.
That being said, the tongue does look like a penis. The 'wrinkles' on the tongue really enhance the penis effect. If you remove these wrinkles, it won't stir up images of penises.

(Though perhaps without tongue completely? I'm sorry I said that without the wrinkles it wouldn't be a penis, but I couldn't know what it was going to look like beforehand)

Maybe it's because Octopi lack tongues in nature that the image is 'strange'?
