Equipped weapons will never drop, neither will item mall items. Other stuff how ever can be dropped when you die, even your equipped shield or gear.

Actually back in the ole 70 cap days, my friend bought a 1m suit, went outside, got raped, than dropped the suit and was jobless. We all lold'd. Hasn't happened since though.

I thought a shield counted as a weapon too.

From what I know yes you can drop your GDF if you're really unlucky. And no your shield doesn't count as your weapon.
