Re: Health Care Reform
Well even though I don't like it, its passed so I'll live, Republicans won't possibly be dumb enough to get rid of it now. This is pretty much like Medicare/Medicaid in 1960's.

Re: Health Care Reform
I heard some people who were whining against it lol but I'm sure every single one of the people who are against this plan have health care themselves. They should imagine it how it would be if they didn't have it ugh >.>

^owned? lol
Anyways, hopefully all the anger will subside soon. By nature, people are afraid of change simply because of the uncertainty and unknown so in a way they just might be overreacting. Everyone likes to live the way they always did.
But after time and we educate the people about healthcare, and once they start buying it and realizing "oh hey this ain't too bad" "oh hey the insurance companies can't raise my premiums" "oh hey healthcare is a little cheaper" "oh hey they aren't going to euthanize granny", maybe they will shut their traps and national healthcare becomes the new norm.

Apparently 14 states are/planning on sueing the fed for the bill being unconstitutional, including va. So our governor has signed a law saying we don't have to buy healthcare

I hate insurance companies. I would prefer if the federal government paid for all of it even at the expense of higher taxes. There would be less greed involved.

I assume you know we don't only 'bang' for reproduction so that's just a bit too easy to say.

I know lol. I just didn't have any words of wisdom to show I don't like Abortion. However I DO believe it is the woman's right, I just wouldn't approve if that makes sense.
Re: Health Care Reform
It was... inevitable? Why fight it? They've been planning for Universal Health Care since the "great" society, it was only a matter of time. It's not the end of the world, I lol@ my buddies who want to leave the country because this bill passed. Where you gonna go? Canada? They have it. Europe? Tough Shit. South America? Good luck with that. China? I hear people are "free" there. This is coming from a libertarian, fyi. We've been using "socialism" (lol, really? such a loaded word) for awhile now. Personally, I would rather have "socialism" than corporatism. Libertarianism is a pipe dream, always has been. A man can dream though.
Also, we don't have a "free market" healthcare system. Government is in bed with insurance corporations, what we have is corporatism. Now, government intends to kill their lover and take complete control? What. difference. is. there.
Instead of
Government ~> Insurance ~> Business ~> Insurance ~> Hospital/Doctor ~> Insurance ~> People
It's
Government ~> Doctor/Hospital ~> People
It hasn't been
Doctor/Hospital ~> People
in awhile.

why do people distrust the american government so much? Shouldn't there be mutual trust between the citizens and the government? Why do so many people go nuts when they hear the word "government"? I trust obama and I trust the federal government that they will do the right thing.

lol you think thats naive? I dont believe in new world order bullshit or 1984 type conspiracies. When the government wants to install full body scanners at the airport, that isn't some kind of big brother scary "omg the government is spying on us". just necessary security.

I feel the exact same way, except the part about trusting the government to do the right thing. I don't put my full trust into that.

Because the government continuously gives us reasons to trust them amiright ?
Also I wouldn't give much thought to the popular conspiracy theories, your fellow men are what's going to get you

The government is a servant; merely a temporary servant. It is not some higher power before whom you must bow and lick its dirty shoes. It is not guided by an invisible hand of some good god. They are regular people with their own desires, agendas and points of view. One who follows them blindly is a tool.
Notice that I didn't say "fight the government", "government is evil by nature" or "oppose its actions whatever they are". One who understands the good of his country never stops questioning the actions of the government.

Re: Health Care Reform
^hmm what?
The government is not a servant. We aren't above them, but that doesn't mean they are above us. The government and the people are on equal terms, basically a contract between the 2. I pay taxes, you protect me, offer public education, keep infastructure good, and help in a natural disaster, etc.
I just wish that people would be more trustful and be more open to the government instead of screaming "no" whenever it tries to do something.
Its pathetic how some people whine about socialism when there are so many things in our country that are standardized or nationalized or publicly funded. Like car safety inspection, national highway administration, education, etc. Healthcare is a right, and government should be responsible for giving us that right.
Anyone who says the word "socialism" in a discussion about Obama's policies or administration is a fucking moron who has his head pushed up fox new's butt so far, the only thing they smell is the bullshit fox spews out.

In democracy we, the people, choose the government. The government does not choose the people. I think that alone puts us above the government.
A servant is one who is paid to serve. The government serves us using our money, and they are paid for it, again by our money. I believe that makes the government a servant.
It is a tool created for the purpose of managing the country. If you bow before a servant that you pay for, who was hired to serve you, what does it make you?
When things go wrong and the people become the servant.... The third Reich, USSR, China, and so on.

Re: Health Care Reform
I don't think the government is a servant to us, I think we are on equal terms with the government on a contract - as in we have citizenship. We are obliged to pay taxes and follow the laws here but in return for that we get a bunch of benefits. I see it as a mutual relationship, not a top-down thing.

The sole purpose of the government and all of its actions is to benefit the people. We owe nothing to the government. Citizenship just determines which utility system (government) is the one that serves us. We pay taxes, and this utility system channels the money back to us in a way that benefits us more as a whole, and takes a portion of the money as upkeep. It enforces the laws, the rules that come from the people (though indirectly), because it benefits the people.
I believe this is the perfect scene, and how it should be; and where I live this is how it is, or at least very, very close.

Did something good happen to upset any of those 2 presidential picks ? Kinda disconnected from the world here.
Also as Barotix nicely pointed out, what happened to our history? nowhere to be found it appears, and you don't even have to look that far back, very recent history ~4 years ago is more than enough to slap reality in your face.
