Trying to fix the drivers....

Post by Scarth »

... for my LAN-port, which I currently use for my internet(direct-lan; 1mb/s+ downloadspeed ftw), on a new install of windows I've got.
I know it works just fine, since I'm now on a windows install on a different hard-disk on the same computer, and I know all I have to do is install 2 drivers.

One is a .sys file, which, according to the settings on this install, should go in C:/Windows/system32/DRIVERS
The other is a .dll file, which, according to these settings as well, should go in C:/windows/system32

I placed both where they should go, but it still won't work. And, seeing as I don't have a CD-burner here, I can't put em on a disk en let my comp read 'em from there.

Making a folder on the desktop, and trying to let the driver-install thingy read 'em directly from the harddisk won't work either, since it won't read from that folder. :(

Anyone got any suggestions? The new install is Windows XP, btw.

When I download the drivers, I get 2 separate files, the .sys and the .dll :(

Why don't you just search an install file for the driver? You might want to use Everesthome, or some equal program to figure out what driver you should download.

Download Everest (the self extracting one)
Install it
Open Everest
Go to Network -> Windows Network (or PCI/PnP Network)
google: "'network card name' driver"

Something doesn't seem right with the drivers, but if you really want to try it, do this:

Click Start then Run then type "cmd" without quotes and hit Enter
Navigate to \system32 by typing "cd %systemroot%\system32"
type in "regsvr32.exe <dllname.dll>" and hit Enter
See what message you get. That'll register the DLL but I doubt it will work right.

Drivers are alright, I used them for the previous install as well, but I forgot how I got them to work that time.

Anyway, I get the following message;

'.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.
This file can not be registered'

That's why everyone suggested an install...and if you download a driver and it's only a .sys and a .dll, I gotta question what version of Windows it is for. I mean, most drivers have at least an .inf file that tells Windows what to do with the .dll's and whatnot.

You could always try a program like Driver Genius that will download whatever drivers you or are outdated.
