How to change my NAT type from "Strict" to "Open"

Post by Fresh »

I have an Xbox 360 and I've been having problems lately trying to get in matches on Modern Warfare 2. It's because of my NAT type which is Strict but I want to change it to Open.

Can anyone help?

Turn on uPnp in your router.
I had the same problem on pc...
Only way to fix it for me was, connect pc directly to router instead of through a switch T_T (whichd doesn't make any sense)

try to enter 192.168.1.1 in your browser, if it asks for a password and username whilst you don't have any clue about them try the admin for both PW and username.
Now you'll be in the config of ur router, without any modeltype/make I can't help you any further

start -> run -> cmd -> ipconfig

Look for standardGATEWAY : xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
most likely will be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.0 or 192.168.2.0
enter the ip in ur browser
Log in into ur router
(If u haven't set a password for ur router:
the password will be blanc or id=admin & pw=admin
If none of the above, google: 'type of router' 'standard password')

Where uPnp is; impossible to say without knowing your router.
Some routers have very general settings, some are more advanced & even have gaming settings.

My old router didn't have a upnp option so I played with moderate for a long long time, but since we moved we got a new router which has the option and several other game settings. Playing with open NAT ftw! xD

if it's a personal router, then it's like rek said
or id=admin
pass=admin

if it's a router provided by the Internet service provider, then you should ask them, normally they gave you when you sign the contract

I hate strict NAT, my school set all our connections to strict, it sucks SO much.

Anyway, all the advice you need seems to be in this thread, good luck! If you're at a university, chances are you can't change it though.

My Router is 192.168.2.1

A lot are different but pretty general. Also set up your Xbox network manually so that the Static IP is OUTSIDE of the DHCP server. (If 192.168.2.1 - 192.168.2.100 is the range, then 192.168.2.101 - 192.168.2.255 would be good to set it to)
Or you can use DMZ on your router for the Xbox. That's what works on PS3
