I passed everything first try in Ontario 0.o

I don't see how you can fail. You get 8-12 months for G1 to G2 and 1 year for G2 to G.

G test was by far the easiest. It's like the G2 test but with less components (no emergency stop, no parallel parking, no reverse parking?). All she tested was entering/exiting the highway and looking for construction signs in residential zones (I lost three marks because apparently I didn't look at them?!?!?!?!?!)

IIRC

$15 for the book
$70 for the written test
$350-400 for the course (you need it otherwise you will pay a lot more in insurance)
$70 for the driving test
$70 for the last driving test
$60 for the renewal of your license (expires after 5 years, by the time I finished the whole cycle I was a couple days before the expiration of my card)

I think I paid like $30 for the road test. Twice since I failed the first time.

Driver's Ed. was expensive, like $500, but that's the way it is everywhere. Never got charged for any books or anything.

Well I meant it sarcastic but damn...Sorry but I won't believe you failed 3 times because you didn't read the book >.> If you fail once I'm sure you would take a look lol

That's what I said that you need some luck with the surroudings, if it's a very busy day you'll have less chance of passing because there is so much more that could go wrong.

I already had some luck I could get my license before I moved to the busier west here and also I had my exam at like 9am, right after the morning rush hour so it was nice and quiet on the roads ^^

If I recall it was around 1400 € for the licence in total here. That was with the truck licence though... Back in the day you could even drive an empty bus or juggernaut with that licence but I think they've changed the law.

I failed that truck licence test once, we were in town crowded with commuters... The instructor changed his mind at a crossroads and decided we should turn right instead of left. Problem was the truck was too large to turn in the tiny space to the left, but the instructor insisted. Didn't trash anything, but didn't pass the test either. -.-

More exercise, new try. Oh, and use your own brains if the instructor tells you to do something stupid.

@pipi: I knew how to drive but moving to Canada from NZ I found the rules a lot more stricter (but more safer too) so I decided to get an instructor just show me what the examiners will be looking for etc. He was a great instructor (teaches in the BC Area) 99% success rate I was told.

Anyways here are some tips:

Changing lanes: BEFORE Signaling, scan the rear view mirror, side mirror (left if changing left/right if changing right) then shoulder check (left if changing left/ right if changing right) Also while doing this, maintain speed, do not slow down or brake.
Only then should you signal and then you must shoulder check AGAIN. Then change lane when safe.

Try and do these at a speed so your examiner can see these steps being done. Full twist of the head etc, looks silly but meh after you pass, you don't need to exaggerate as much.

Things to remember: Even if the examiner tells you to change lane but you find it is unsafe to do so, don't and tell him/her that it is unsafe.

Stop Signs: Always come to a FULL STOP, do not drift a little or you fail at Stopping. Check all mirrors (same as changing lanes) shoulder check right if turning right (for pedestrians) left (vice versa)

Turning: Apply the break gently, turn, then let go of the brake, only when you are straight hit the gas. This one makes your turning smooth = impress examiner. When turning from a stop, get as close to the curve into the right lane as possible.

Lookout for the speed signs, and other signs on the road (Alot in Canada lol) In Langley anyways known as the hardest place to take the test in BC.

You won't fail as long as you are safe and show how safe you are while still maintaining control and speed on the road.

Listen to this guy.

Most important thing. Exaggerate your head turning / looking as much as possible! In my test i would turn my head all the time to look like i was looking in the mirrors, but most of the time i wasn't looking with my eyes anyway.

Yeah the points apachai made are really good. Also pay attention in the drivers ed class itself instead of blowing it off cause your too excited to get on the road. You learn a lot that you need to know.
