Rationally, I would believe the scientist. But you also need to know that just because we believe in someone doesn't mean everything he says is right and just because the majority of the population believe the same thing doesn't make that thing true. There are cases that the minority beats over the majority and there is a thing called "possibility".

I don't reject god either, I just don't believe in one in the same way I don't believe in flying unicorns. There is no evidence for either.. Is criticizing someone who claims the Earth is 6000 years old insulting? On the contrary, for someone to claim such absurdness is insulting to science. (I know, not all Christians / religious people take their books stories as being literal).

The Earth couldn't 'hide' evidence of a global flood. Even if it could, a global flood would have completely distorted the fossil record.

"Missing links"? Son, I am disapoint. Every fossil discovered is a 'missing link'. Every fossil is a transitional fossil. "Missing link" is a term creationists like to throw around because they lack an understanding of evolution. Not calling you a creationist, just saying. I don't see how you can equate a lack of fossils to the Earth's ability to 'hide' a global flood. Fossils are not abundant (well they are, just not in the sense of how many organisms have graced the Earth) because it takes pristine conditions for fossilization to occur.

Sigh, you just don't get it. First, this is a discussion forum. We discuss. Second, there have already been a few responses as to why atheists have a problem with religion.

Exactly. I'm fine with religion as long as it is used by sane people who can see past the old ideologies (stoning people as an example) and use it as a guiding tool. But when it is cherry picked for ones own benefit, in politics like you mentioned, I have problems. Or when it is used to justify violence.

The problem is there are too many people who don't fit the 'sane' category who use it to do exactly what I just mentioned or who follow it blindly. I don't agree with a lot of what is in holy texts and how it is used to manipulate, bla bla.. and it's not my place to tell someone they can't follow said religion, but when those peoples views affect the lives of the non-religious or other separate religions, there's a problem.

In my personal life (keyword here is 'MY') religion is not pushed on me by other ppl. But the Atheists that I do know often do push their point. INSANELY OFTEN. Maybe it is the area I live. I'm in Boston and here with our large concentration of colleges and universities it seems like everyone is a Kenny KnowItAll. In my experience that is ALL they wanna talk about. And I am not talking about 1 or 2 ppl. I probably know about 20+ Atheists and it is the same story with almost all of them.

Whether you are a Bible thumping Mary Magdalene or Adam the Aweseome Atheist I don't care. Ppl just need to shut the fvck up and respect the fact that not everyone see things and believes the same way.

The thing is I don't base my entire dislike of religion on that single point. It is one in a long list of things that add up to a big fat: religion is a hindrance to humanity.

The Koran and the Bible both contain passages that authorize the murder of innocent people and can be used to justify said murder. Extremist use this to justify murder. This fact goes into my long list. I draw my conclusion from that list.

Obviously there will be extremists in any group, but when a lot more negativity spawns, separate from the extremists actions, in that group..well...

Now keep in mind I am basing this off of some vague convo that I had in HS with my psyche teacher. I guess the thought was that ppl who were in that state of mind (suicide) would find some comfort, hope, solace...something/anything in the Bible that would help them not leave a corpse for the morning maid to find.

You're talking about Leviticus or the laws of Israel. The bible is composed of various genres, should today's Christians be expected to apply the laws of Israel, the laws of the jews in their everyday life? I don't think they should.

Leviticus does not contain the words of the prophets or proclaim of the coming of a Messiah. Each book of the bible is a different literary genre and to be treated as such. Leviticus is a list of the historical laws of Israel, not something modern Christians should use to advocate murder, war, and bigotry. Well, some do. They shouldn't, but they do it anyway. lol. Jesus, the Christian Messiah, hated pharisees (Google defines pharisee as: "a member of an ancient Jewish sect noted for strict obedience to Jewish traditions "). Jesus basically came down like the grand poobah and said: "Fck all these old ass customs, here's how it really runs down, brahs."
