i wish i had a bible now i ate my last bible...funniest thing about that is its true the lector these religious guys gave took over my school lunch at the time by the end of the day i was eating pages from the bible...honestly it tasted shit but a amusing story to tell people non the less....i wasnt a normal child il stand up and admit that

oh yea. Srry I'm use to that shit. Had it growing up. Still stick by kids today have it too easy. I only consider beating the child up for no reason or beating him to a pulp as "abuse".

Normal beating as a punishment I'm not against.

Got confused cuz when I first read the quote, I took it as abuse beating with the way it was worded.

What? I got the belt, the spoon, the cane, the flyswatter, the belt buckle, the hand, and the hammer as a kid.

Granted I don't agree with all those that were used on me, but a belt without the buckle seems appropriate. Especially with kids today without an ounce of respect.

lol? the kids without an ounce of respect probably got the belt...... i wouldn't respect someone if they beat me in any form or way even as punishment if i did something wrong. there is a right and wrong way to being a parent and frankly a lot of people are not ready to be a parent.

Depends on the child I guess. I was spanked at the age of 6, once, never acted bad enough to get the belt again. Usually a firm grab of the arm and a stern talking to was the worst I ever got after the spanking incident. Taught me not to act up. My kids will get spankings.

But that's kinda off topic and not an issue in the bible that I have problems with.

Genesis 17:14 (uncircumcised men have somehow upset god)

Frankly, people that just let their kids run wild aren't great parents either. As the kid you might think they're the best, but later you'll realize shit, my folks weren't awesome, they just didn't give a shit about me.

I'm not advocating beat the shit out of your child for spilling milk on accident, but if he throws the milk bottle at your face every time you give him one, sometimes nothing gets the mssg across like a good spanking.





@ Disconnect, the Bible was transcribed by men. Who knows how much of it is word for word God's words. Like all religion though, there will be some form of incorporated "laws" from gods about social norms.

Circumcision back than was used to help prevent diseases. Hygiene back than isn't like what we have today. The child thing is overkill. Sex with animals is unclean today, and who knows how much uncleaner back than. Besides just going against social norms, this was prob to prevent spreading of diseases. Having homosexuality wouldn't exactly good for raising the small nation of Israel's population now would it. Men wrote it.

66 books and countless authors. How do you decide which parts are the words of god? Most people pick and choose what best suits them. Simple as that. It's a book of fairytales written to comfort those afraid of death and an attempt by men 2000 years ago to explain the natural world around them.

Nowadays we have this crazy system called science that does a much better job.

just grounding someone is not going to cut it. you have to be creative and make sure to reward nicely for the good things they do.

example: kid wont clean his room even though you ask a million times.
normal solution that tends not to work: ground them.
solution that would work: give them like $10 for cleaning their room or you will go out to dinner where ever they want if they clean their room.

indeed it depends on the kid but it also depends on the parent.

Actually, that solution you mentioned wouldn't work. I remember getting a lecture on it a few weeks back in Psychology. Apparently rewarding them for something they should've been doing reduces their personal drive to do it since they relate the task with the reward. This leads to poorer performance later in life when they have to do it so they can be neat. As a parent, you're not going to be around forever.

like i said it depends on the kid and idk about you but i would have a clean room if i had some reward. i mean you work for money don't you? people do chores for money don't they? giving them money for cleaning their room would be just like work wouldn't it? honestly who at the age of 20 keeps their room clean clean.... you don't make your bed when you wake up do you? you ask them to clean their room to the max for the $10 and secretly reward them with a "hey your room looks nice" when its kept clean. i guess i should of explained that before but if you tell a kid good job wont that make them proud that they did a good job?

also when you ask them to clean their room for the $10 you could do like $10 to help pay for something they want. teach them goals and stuff?

this is pretty much an opinion based subject why we are even debating this idk. maybe its because its almost 1am and i'm in a debating mood.

You keep your room clean so when you bring a girl back to your crib, there will be space to actually bang her. That's the whole point in teaching a kid to keep their room clean.

I'm not saying motivation and goal whatnots don't work in teaching kids a lesson, it's just you have to be careful in a different way. Giving them the wrong rewards will lead to them associating work with reward. Doing so will only work as long as the rewards keep coming. If you pay the kid 10 bucks to clean his room each time, he'll learn to expect it. The moment you stop he'll just go back to leaving it dirty.

The telling him he did a good job works well for kids that have the drive to do it in the first place.

I'm fine for the nice rewards/grounding method, it's just for larger things like disrepecting, not listening multiple times, etc, that I think the belt is needed. For small things like chores or simple stuff, i don't really mind that happy method.

Than again, I'm one of those people that think Death Penalty is great. Imagine how much less shoplifting would be if teens knew that if they get caught they'd lose a finger. Where I come from, I remember high school and middle school girls thinking shoplifting is the coolest thing evaaa like omg.

I'm not saying motivation and goal whatnots don't work in teaching kids a lesson, it's just you have to be careful in a different way. Giving them the wrong rewards will lead to them associating work with reward. Doing so will only work as long as the rewards keep coming. If you pay the kid 10 bucks to clean his room each time, he'll learn to expect it. The moment you stop he'll just go back to leaving it dirty.

The telling him he did a good job works well for kids that have the drive to do it in the first place.

I'm fine for the nice rewards/grounding method, it's just for larger things like disrepecting, not listening multiple times, etc, that I think the belt is needed. For small things like chores or simple stuff, i don't really mind that happy method.

Than again, I'm one of those people that think Death Penalty is great. Imagine how much less shoplifting would be if teens knew that if they get caught they'd lose a finger. Where I come from, I remember high school and middle school girls thinking shoplifting is the coolest thing evaaa like omg.


you also have to careful with the belt and whatnot use it to much and they will feel worthless and possibly go into depression.

iv grown up really just being on my own i'm always in my room or doing something with a friend if i have a question i find the answer from the internet or what ever. would you say i taught myself? though when i was young my dad tried the belt tactic (because it was a popular method back then) it didn't work i didn't care i looked for ways around getting caught. its a double edged sword just like everything. one side has benefits in an area and the other has benefits in another area.

also about the death penalty i'm all for it actually though it may seem odd because i'm not one for physical punishment. i just view if you murder someone not in self defense you should lose your life.

i'm all for that its a goal its what you want to do. just as a parent i would make sure that they should use protection because if they mess up and have a kid they are on their own. just felt that needed to be noted
