So I'm usually not a big fan of rap because of the wannabe-gangsters running around, IMO hip-hop died with Biggie and Tupac. I recently came across this man, Immortal Technique, who's half black and half peruvian and was raised in Harlem
After listening to some of his songs, I'm truly convinced this man is a lyrical genius. None of his songs are about how much money he has, how many b*itches he's f*cked, or much of a gangster he is, which sadly is the standard of today's hiphop/rap songs. All of his songs are about political struggle, life lessons, stories, etc. Also, he's not afraid to spit the truth. In fact, many of his songs criticize the government for supporting terrorism, destroying the economy, etc. I don't agree with everything he says, but I researched MANY of things he talks about, and they all have very murky details about the US Government.
He refuses to sign with a record deal because he doesn't want to be censored by them, and he doesn't want them taking in all his profits. Just listen to one of his songs, you won't be disappointed.
