Army Reserve

Post by emperor3000 »

So I wanted to ask a question regarding the Army Reserve or Air Force reserve, because they are just cooler as people say lol.

When I join the army reserve does that mean I would be called upon for active duty?

Or is it like a join it, get the benefit, and if shit happens within the United States is when I have to dress up in uniform and help out?

Yeah, I am thinking about doing this so I can get experience and help out the country is shit really happens.

And was wondering is there anyone here that have any idea or experience with the Army/Air Force reserve.

Thank you

AFAIK, they call you when they need you, and you still have to do like your unit drills and shit even if they didn't call you (yet).

By joining any branch of the military you must accept the fact that there is always the possibility of being called to active duty to serve the US somewhere overseas..

You won't have the same benefits as active duty while in reserves.

If you are really serious about this you can do more reading online about it and then talk to a recruiter. SRF isn't the best place. :)

*Reserve you go train one weekend per month and twice in the summer, you hold a civilian job.
*Active duty you are full time Army with a full time army job, etc..

Yeah like evga said, go look on the army reserve website, I'm sure they have the information you're looking for.

And yeah, if theres a war and the government needs more people, then they'll get the reserve guys. Then the militias, then a draft..but I doubt you're going to get called up to go to war as part of the reserve in the 21st century. The only way would be if America got into some kind of apocalyptic war with china or russia which is pretty much not going to happen.

More commonly, the reserve is often called up when theres some kind of natural disaster in your area or if theres massive riots in the city.

If you go army reserve, you'll probably get called in, honestly. We keep sending more troops over, and over-taxing the normal soldiers, eventually (now) they'll need to start calling in reservists.

I'd say go air force reserve if you really want to join the military as a reservist. Or coast guard, their reservists don't do shit. I have a friend who's in the coast guard reserve and all he does is do his training once and month, get paid, and his job is basically a desk job in the warehouses.

@EvGa & Jstar1

I did some research in the goarmy website, but I just wanted to hear from the people that been through it to check what they have to say.

I guess I could go do some web lurking in the air force reserve website now lol.

Thx

Air Force in general don't do much, unless you plan on flying an F-16... We don't have "infantry" like the army or marines do. Rather than reserve, I say go air guard (National guard for the air force) because this one guarantees that you stay in your state.

Difference between national guard and reserve?

Reserve is ran by the Federal Government, the Guard is ran by the state in which you reside in.

Go Navy! If your just looking for the benefits and really don't want to go out and fight for your country I would say find a different way.

Hi Blurred, it seems reading around the National Guards website didn't help me much. In the FAQs it stated that I can be called to active duty.

Also I was wondering will I be working for a civilian job or will I be fully working for the guard?
