Cuz humans are complicated. You can't truly love two people and do things for both of them, there is bound to be something you do for one that will upset the other.

I don't think it has anything to do with Christianity. Law aside, there aren't very many people I've ever met besides one polyamorist who seemed to be able to keep a relationship in that fashion. The law was just so the gov't got to regulate it for tax purposes.

It isn't a christian thing. Monogamy arises from the idea of equal rights for men and women and the desire for a simple and organized family structure. In America, the law was created as a response to the Mormon church.

Well when the Mormons moved up to the north west they wanted to ratify their state into the union. Part of the compromise was that they would drop the practice of polygamy.
This all goes back to colonization and Christianity.

This is a misunderstanding. The only time this is advised against in the bible is for the head of an ecclesia. There is nothing wrong with polygamy. It is actually stated that the end of our age will be made evident by the forbidding of marriage. This is believed to refer to polygamous marriages. Marriage is likened to a contract, or covenant. In as much as Jesus will have a polygamous marriage of the nations of the earth, it is also allowed for a man to be in a polygamous relationship with women.

The thought that marriage is meant to be monogamous is as false and non-biblical as many other teachings in modern christianity.

I'm not asking about the purpose of marrying, but why the government forbid such and such laws. Of course they don't give a shit how many girls you got in your life and if you live with them like husband and wife or not. For example, what's the point of forcing people to divorce the previous marriage before marrying a new one?

Yep, the monogamist part just got pushed through as a law. I'm not arguing for/against if it is advocated in scripture, but certain religious doctrines have played a role in pressuring these laws into place.

Not saying it is the sole reason, just one of the reasons.
