try to change your game resolution to 800x600 pixels this maybe an issue on graphic card drivers. ^_^

No idea if the following made a difference but it's helped me.

3 weeks ago I decided to clean up the registry on my PC as I hadn't done it for a few of months (I forgot

), the last time being about a month before I installed SRO.

Before I did this I would get the problem within a hour of playing SRO. Now, I only get the ?????? problem after a few days have gone by since I cleaned up the registry. I've had many 3-4 hours sessions without any problem since doing this.

I used a program called Registry Mechanic to clean up the registry. You have to pay for this, it's not freeware but, I'm sure there's a freeware program somewhere to do this.

Now, everytime before I play SRO I clean the registry just in case (only takes a few minutes) and I don't get the ????? error anymore.

What I also do before playing is clean out my internet cache (temporary files). I use Webroot Window Washer to do this as it cleans up a whole bunch of other things as well (again, this is not a freeware program).

As I said at the begining, I've no idea if this makes any difference but, I happily get many hours playing SRO without a problem now. Still, maybe I've just been getting lucky recently.

OMG i had to reset my computer to factory settings, I updated everything to what it was before (so really it was kinda the same but with less stuff on) now SRO dont work and all i get it is this........

this is really annoying :banghead:

if anyone can help me please do (i have already done the compatability with 98/ME but it doesnt work that way aswell)

everytime i try to start the game, the anti hacking thing comes up then boom, Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library sro_client.exe terminated in unusual way
i've tried to do everything, graphics, sound, the exe compatibility in windows 98, nothing works!

It seems whenever I get randomly disconnected from SRO, it's because my entire computer gets disconnected from the Internet. The channel windows will say I'm disconneted, AIM disconnected, SRO "disconnect from server" etc. So I doubt SRO randomly disconnects people (to cut down on server traffic)... In my case, it's likely a problem with my ISP, or possibly my router is faulty. Maybe others have this problem too.

Not sure what to think about the ????? error though. I've tried several suggestions including the win98 compatibility on the .exe files and updating my video drivers. I'm pretty sure I'm running at 800x600 but I'll check that.

Hahaha, I had this conspiracy theory like yours too. But now I am suspecting GameGuard.
GameGuard is known to disconnect/close your game if it detected any suspicious activities. That means it somehow interact with the game itself, what if something went wrong in the process, memory violation, blah blah blah, this could end up exit the game unexpectedly.

Anyway, just my guess, I'm trying the Windows 98/ME method now, hope it helps a bit.

These unexpected crashes really pain in da ass especially you open your stall over night, and thought could get some cash loaded, but in the morning you found out your game exited and nothing was sold... :banghead:

And ya, also when you almost finish a giant, and it just crashes like that... :banghead:

...yup...rally anoying...i get the error more often now....mostly when i just log on to the game....(1) the crash interval varies a lot...today 4 examlpe i had it many times...smoetimes after 20 sec relog....and yes,(2) it seems it is related to inactivity(stall 4 ex.)..cuz i too get it more often then.... (3) Also, I am not shure that the "???" message does anything actually...and it must not have anything to do with your settings...(4) they should have the game work on more configurations...AND I WILL STOP PLAYING AND MAKEING ANY KIND OF PAYMENT (cuz lol...it's the old players that invest in the game more...not the 1week curious guys)...(5) I also thought about the random disconnect theory..lol...and I even suspected that the ones who pay don't get this...at least not so often...but they do....so, first of all it should support more configurations...

I too play in the morning and at night....during day i can't play because: 1. i get dcced; 2. the lag is infernal and no autopotion can save u gettin pwned (u know how bad that 5uck5...)-allthough it's free(see other posts about lag...)- 3. i get..."THE ERROR" and 4. u can't connect at all...

P.S. The jpeg of the error looks the same in my case...

Plz someone help me. I got a problem with this "????????" Error. The problem is that when I connect and load my character, my character appears but instantly my game is closed and i get the error. I dont stay even 1 second online in the game when it is closed by the error. Plz someone help me to solve this.

I get this problem constantly, and at completely random intervals, while I'm doing just about anything. So now here's my conspiracy theory:
the servers all always busy or full, right? And you report that it seems to crash in entire areas. What if its that there's a bit of strain on the server from constant 100% use, so it randomly goes critical and blips out in certain areas?

Oh yes, I've also had the problem with the computer crashing when your in a stall in a crowded area, but in another game (Kalonline). The trick most people used in that game was to stare at either the ground or the sky, fully zoomed in, so all you can see is yourself.

nice theory..allthough my PC screams a bit when i play the gm(i've tried more graphic configs), i don't think it is really a problem of that matter...the comp doesn't crash...the game does...lag is another thing...that comes (besides net provider/speed/etc) from aglomeration on some parts of the map...anyone done some programming...how exactly does it work...

haha...actually wtf, it seems we the players are the ones that are trying to solve this??

p.s. ur theory about server crashing players might have some fact in it...i thought of that too...the majority don't get it unless server is ultra crowded...maybe they should limit the posbility of new chars being created...?I don't think that will happen anywayz...

Setting compatability of all four .exe files to Win98 really solved the problem of crashing when trying to run Silkroad

The reason you guys get the ???? is cause of GG "A legal trojan".
Even though gameguard seems to load up succesfully when you start the game and you will sometimes get the ???? crash later on, its because gameguard found an error it could not give an explination to, thus the ????. How do you eliminate an error which the program itself can't give techs a valid error code; like when you get blue screen in windows you'll get an error code that gives techs some reference as to where to look to solve the problem. You really can't fix it urself you gotta wait for gg updates.
Other option is of course to completely disable GG. Ever wonder why when you log on it seems botters been botting at same place for days on end? why wouldn't they be getting all these ??? and random crashes? well there u go.. they have to disable GG.

Does Silkroad Online have a problem with IE 7, because when I installed it, I get a dialogue with an error, its sort of weird because you cant read it... here's a screenshot.

Well, I found the problem for my computer. turns out there was a speck of dust in my RAM connector that was having lots of fun wreaking havoc on my system. Since I cleaned it out, the game's been error free.

the error isn't really caused by any one thing. its just like that windows error screen- needlessly tells you you got an error, uselessly apologizes for it, and asks you if you want to send them a report they'll probably never read. if everyone seriously gets this range of error problems, and they only happen on SRO, then someone should follow Douglas Adams way of getting someone to work: take the programmer and lock him in a small room with nothing but a computer, while wafting the tempting smell of pepperoni pizza through the cracks in the door, and telling him he gets none of it until the game is debugged.

anyone experiencing crash when pressing restart button in Sro?

pressing restart in sro will always cause sro client to crash and return me to the desktop screen. sometimes the crash followed by the ???? error.

i tried updating driver (nvidia driver v93.71) and the compatibility mode for the 4 exe files, disable visual themes, and turning off advanced text service however it just work on one of my computer but not the other.

i have two identical comp.. same hardware same config. both is:
P4 2.4Ghz
512Mb DDR400
MSI P4Neo2 (i845PE) mobo
Forsa Geforce 6600
onboard sound

PS. my friend computer never experience the ??? error or crashing when restart is pressed.. his config:

Amd Athlon64 3500+
512Mb DDR400
Asus A8N
XFX 7600GS
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS.

i've submitted bug report but to this day, no reply from joymax.. help please..

It'd have to be with the account and SRO's servers, something that was caused during the update.
My account and character works perfectly fine. HOWEVER, a friend of mines is experincing the same problem as you all, when he asked me to try on his account, I also crashed and got the same exact error.

IT'S NOT A HARDWARE PROBLEM ON YOUR COMPUTER.

I get the very same problem. Everything loads fine and as soon as i read the message - CRASH!

However, when I open the game and enter it with a new character - everything works fine, no error...

Got the problem as well, since about half an hour. When i log in with my character it crashes after 1-5 seconds (not always the same).
If i create another character i seem to be okay, so it's surely not hardware related.

Now it could be coincidence, but my game started giving this error the minute after i picked up a rudolph from the jewel boxes. So my guess is that this is screwing over my character.

In short: help. (.exe files and such didn't help)

same problem 30 minutes ago :

if i create a new character it runs fine - but if i go to that specific little area where my "stuck" character froze the new will stuck too!
And it does it all on all servers - so far i tried a couple.

Still have the same problem here. Since the Big update for Taklamaklan (or however its spelled) and Christmas event. Never experienced this Problem before. Ive got friends who r online, so i think its not everyone who have this problem. Please someone help or contact SRO GM (cause i cant...another forum bug problem) so they can fix it. Wasting the christmas event time and Gold Ticket time 2...so that's anoying.. Thanks all for all the good work!

I dont run anything in the background, only Silkroad on a fresh WinXP-install.

But these ???-errors still keep popping up all the time, and i've must have lost at least 100% Experience Points on this..
