seriously dell? your going to buy a secondhand dell!!

i mean its dell

buying a computer thats already built isnt custom btw your just switching cases

here is what you do buy a mobo, processor, ram, cheap reliable gfx card (i suggest 8800) and ofc that case if thats the one you want then build it its not hard and will be better then that dell

don't get a dell they rig the motherboard so you can't upgrade the psu (power supply) it will fry the motherboard if you put a non dell power supply in there. you can easily get a cheap computer that will be 10 times better then that for around the same price. i used to like dell........until i saw the light

Check newegg.com and put a tower together. $600 will get you a decent mid-range setup.

Just be sure everything fits and you're gravy.

Buy it. You obviously have no idea what you're doing. You're the reason why Dell is in business.

actually after his latest comment i suggest buying a computer pre-built just dont buy a dell, tell us what your looking at buying we'll tell you if its good. you building a computer would likly cost you more in acidental damage ie static damage

For a computer under $600 just buy one. It'll save you time and if you get wrong parts, money.

i used a dell and when i got my new custom computer iv been asking myself why i waited so long to switch

anyways you can look for combo deals on newegg like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBund ... mbo.328587 (i used this one because i remember seeing that because i got the same case)

has everything but a graphics card and those cost around $100 for one that can do pretty much anything on the market. or you could use the integrated one on the motherboard. you just have to put it together and normally that is not that hard.

thank you amarisa, its a good start but it doesn't leave much for me to work with on getting a graphics card, i do know how to build them i'm just not sure on matching the parts and i am taking as much time as possible so i don't waste my money like mcclane has suggested, btw thank you again amarisa you just helped me figure out how to look for a compatable power supply, now i can look for everything i need but i will probably post everything here for everyones advice on the parts

integrated cant run shit, and you would have to spend more than $100 for a ok one unless you find a really good deal somewhere.

Bud, I used to make mistakes a lot like this, its ok, you are here now to learn

Lets us a example

ATI X800 Pro - $40
ATI X1650 Pro - $70

Which card has more power and far better? ATI X800!

Nvidia 8800 - $80
Nvidia 9500 - $80

Which card wins? Nvidia 8800

You need to do more research on the power on the card, I used to believe, the higher the model, the better.

Say you have a X800, a model that is better but on the same line would be the X1800.
So even though the X800 is less in the name, it has more power and a different use compared to the X1650.

Hopefully you understand

ok il help some making sure something is compatible is more simple then you think

processor check its socket
get motherboard with that socket
3 main types of ram get the one compatible with the motherboard

here is an example

AMD Phenom II - AM3 socket
Asus M4N78 - AM3 socket motherboard
DDR2 is compatible with motherboard

get a 650w psu and thats the scary parts of the computer done. just be sure to get a harddrive with either sata or ide. most newer systems are sata so thats not so important and most motherboards can support a ide harddrive anyways

i was running a ati hd 4200 (integrated) and it could run most games easy on medium settings. don't expect to run on high with integrated but they are good for the basic's of builds.

nice way to put it

also if you play on like a 15 inch screen you don't need a $700 5970 but more like a nvidia 8800 you would be surprised how little it takes to power most games (besides cysis because its a graphics orgy pretty much)

i'm saving for a 4770 and thats $114 for something that can play games nicely. plus right now ati seems to be getting the most "bang for buck" (basically performance over price) atm ati/amd have me sold right now because i haven't had any good things from a intel (even if it was a p4 and amd allowed me to have a quad core for $100)

though i wish i found that combo sooner because i could have been running a i5 here for less then i bought this system.

also just to add if your afraid the system won't work or anything post what you were thinking to put in and we all can help you.

Intergrated gfx card is a big nono, don't invest in mobos becuz they have it, intergrated chipsets may have the same model name but are no where compared in power, they are horrible for gaming today

You have to realize that even though it says 8400, it isn't gonna be good especially since it was org pci slot! The 8400 series was never good, those are low end cards, intergrated graphx card runs from a single chip, a low power gpu and a high chance of sharing ram
