umm good grades and hard work is exactly what you need in order to make a good living and have a secure job. Carpenter, mechanic, sure go join apprenticeship or community college..but you get what you put in. Don't complain when you hit your salary ceiling, which is going to be low to begin with.

I recommend people to do the best they can ever be and get at least a 4 year bachelor degree in a good major (aka, something thats not social science, psychology, english, etc). And anyways, the bureau of labor statistics (US government branch) says that a 4 year degree is the best path to financial stability and its pretty much true that employers want to see a respectable B.S degree under your belt if you want the job.

high school is not "party time". And college isn't just a place where you get drunk and bang hoes for 4 years to get a piece of paper with the word "diploma" on it. Its really really sad that there a lot of american high school kids that see college this way.

I always admire people's courage to do something 'unconventional' like that. Looks like it has turned out good for you.
I want security and don't really see myself taking such a leap, but it's nice to see that it works out for other people.

At least thats how it is in the UK. Until you go to college/university all you have to worry about is passing. Dont be one of these people who missed out on the social life so that they could revise all night, just to get a top grade. It wont make any noticeable difference (they will say it does but thats just so they can justify their mistakes).

Oh and i didnt have a clue what i wanted to do until i was around 19. Before then i was just doing random college courses and making sure i passed so if i decided to go to uni.. i could, even though i wasn't interested in uni's at all back then.

A GPA of 1.0 (thats passing right?) in highschool won't get you a good job (in the US)because most good colleges want someone w/ a GPA of 3.0+. Unless you're the star of your highschool basketball/football team.

It doesn't all revolve around going to college and getting good grades.
My father's uncle made a fortune selling fries at Thialf (big Dutch ice skating rink where all the tournaments are). He didn't need an education for that.

Bill Gates is a drop out. Though I think he went to Harvard, so he at least did well at some point.
College provides more certainty, but that doesn't mean you can't get anywhere without it.

I honestly don't understand what you wanted from us. Welcome to the real world. You make choices, there will be consequences. Don't think you are going to hear what you want to hear. Honestly, if you don't have motivation you will never achieve what you want. This is a world where people fend for themselves. Do what you do, but don't expect to get more than what you put in.

Honestly honors and AP courses are not that difficult in high school. Spend sometime thinking of what you want to do with your life. Introspection is a good way to clear your mind and make a path for yourself. If you expect to hear what you want on a forum ( a korean gaming forum at that) then you are mistaken.

Your missing out on a huge part of your life.

Give it a few years and you'll realise money isn't everything, and you're going to regret not making the most of being young.

And no.. this isn't me saying disregard education and just get fcked every night. Dont let the social side or educational side take over your life.

Except the party part, you gotta party, live it up AND do well in school. It's not that hard.

its absolutely true that you want to balance both sides, I was just responding to the post that said high school is "party time". And no, I'm not a workaholic either..I went to about 3 parties and hosted 1 over the past couple months.

And about money, it isn't everything, but its almost everything, contrary to what people want to believe in. I guess some don't want to admit it but money does buy a lot of luxuries and benefits that really do make a better life for yourself. Now some people see that as materialism and vanity, but that isn't necessarily true. Someone who legitimately worked hard and made a lot of money deserves to ride first class or buy a huge ass LCD TV.

@ OP: Im sure about 90% of all students feel the same as you. Im in University now..3rd year and i barely remember anythng i 'learned' from high school. To me, high school was just a place to have fun ;D but lucky for me, i was good at it enough to get high enough grades.

So imo...and im not trying to be mean or w/e...suck it up and just do the best you can. high school is nothing more than a precursor to college. And believe me..depending on your degree..college is a much bigger headache compared to high school.

I always thought i would have more fun in college..but now i regret not having enough fun at high school >.>

Good luck with that. I know someone that did something similar. It was great for 2 years. I actually got him playing SRO with me too, he was rolling with prem+ and gold like crazy. Was fun, unfortunately he got caught and spent the last 2 years still in jail. I talked to him recently and he says he now regrets ever doing it. Short 2 year high and I guess it must've been pretty rough the last 2 years in jail. Course he also missed his wife and kids as well I'm sure.

High school was college for me. When my first year ended at college, I already had enough credits and the status of a senior on my transcript. Classes are harder and require better methods of memorization and problem solving, but still same general idea. Major difference is you slowly get more and more involved into what you're studying. Never got to play heart stimulant and radioactive tablets in high school for obvious reasons.

Back on Topic:

You don't like school? Go and be a bum for 1 day. See which is better. School is mostly about learning analytical skills. You go to learn how to solve things, think outside the box, and communicate better with others. Some people to make it big without higher education. Those people are gifted. They had drive, something you seem to just lack in general judging from your posts.

You can always make it big in life, it's just whether you have the drive to keep working until you succeed. Going to school and doing well just helps you. It gives you life skills for solving issues that come up.

Life is an investment, if you don't give some effort into it, you can't really expect much in return. If you don't like school, make it so you do. Find something that interests you. History of water polo, how physics is applied in water polo. Everything you learned is actually applied in everyday life, most people just don't realize it. You prob won't know what you want to do until later in life, but slacking and goofing off early and you might never get a chance. It's always a bit odd being the 25 or 30 year old student in a college class full of 18 year olds, but they know they have to do it to get somewhere better.

What? When and where did I claim to be superior? I can't believe you stooped down to the level where you have nothing else to pick at, but my post count. I tell this to everybody who brings up my post count in an argument: would anything I say be seen differently if my post count was 1? If so; would you disregard my post, or do posts with a 10k post count beside it have that much influence to you? There are members of this forum with more recent join dates than my own, and have fewer posts than me whom I respect and learn from; so it's not all about the post count. I don't think I'm superior to anybody, you just make yourself feel inferior.

Oi, HS is good for setting up study habits. It's a question of do you hate school or do you hate your school? If you hate school then have fun on that slippery slope, now if you hate your HS, join the club, suck it up - depression and all - and do what you gotta do to get out with reasonable grades. There's no advice one can give you, it just happens:

9th Grade in NYC - All As, killed the bio regents, I felt amazing
10th Grade semester 1 in GA - As
Semester 2? Bs, felt like shit. hated GA, wanted out.
11th Grade semester 1, Bs & Cs - got my first F ever (Honors Physics)
11th Grade semester 2, Bs
12th Grade Semester 1 - C & Ds (almost failed Human Anatomy) - I hit rock bottom here. It doesn't get any lower than a bunch of Cs & Ds your senior year.
12th Grade Semester 2 - Bs - bounced back because I didn't want to be that guy. You know, the guy with potential that failed HS.

Slippery slope, it took a reality check in the form of an F & several Ds & Cs my Junior and Senior year to get my head in the game. You don't want to be an underachiever. It's a slippery slope, I had the foundation from my first 3 years in HS to bounce out of my slump my senior year. You want to build the habits now so you don't have to build them in college. Study for the sake of studying.

This honestly summed up my entire HS career. atm im in 12th grade semester 2 with As and Bs ... Same with semester 1 also.

I've always heard my parents yap at me about grades; never really cared until i realized what i've done to myself.

Funny, I nap so often in college. Well more undergrad courses anyways. High school I barely got any sleep. Something about Straight AP/IB classes non stop from 10-12 had something to do with it.

Only class I "failed" was AP BC Calc (aka, calc 2 of college). Even than the teacher did it so you could take a sample AP test and your score on that would determine your semester grade. So I had F's for the 9 weeks and A's for the semester. Looked pretty funny on my application I bet. But being able to skip math my entire time in college was worth it.

You can do that?

yea, I passed the AP exam with a 4 or a 5, i forget. But it was enough to get me credit all the way to Calc 2 in college... sooo yea i was done XD.

I do partially wish i took it easy in high school, but it did allow me relax a bit in college. And it wasn't much of a transition. Besides, I can get wasted now and not have to worry about getting caught or stupid shit like that.

So does this mean you admit to having 10.4k posts of complete douche baggery?

Okay, I'm a douche bag. QQ. You should go tell all your teachers to act like douche bags to you, cause it clearly motivates you.

I think his posts are pretty funny (not all of 'em though).

OT:
Wait till you get to go to college, college is just awesome.

Barotix wrote:Oi, HS is good for setting up study habits.

Hey I hate Georgia too! (The state, I am pretty sure thats what you mean)
