Dude, go for high grades in school. I'm not entirely sure what I want to do in life, though I have ideas. Get those high grades so you can do what you want when you think of something you want to to. It's better to gain the knowledge and not need it that to not have it and need it.

I'm in 10th. My last semester grades:
P.E.: A (don't remember %, over 93% less than 100%)
World History: 98%
Chinese 2: 92%
Orchestra: 100%
English: 87%
Chemistry Honors: 94%
Algebra 2: 91%

I'm sort of lazy, I'm more motivated this semester than last semester since I fail at grammar in English and I really want all A's.

What the most important point I want to say is that don't think high school has nothing to do with what you want to do in life. Don't blow of high school just because you think algebra or chemistry is pointless.
Instead, treat high school as a phase that everyone goes through to become smarter and get better study habits. Then treat college as a place where you continue to become smarter but at the same time learn your professional skills then.

I think you'll be more motivated if you see your education this way.

What I got from that was that if he continues doing what he does it will just make it worse for himself in the long run.

I used to feel exactly the same way as you, I still feel the same way today, I always felt like I'm not good at anything at school, I feel like life is kinda boring and not worth trying, guess what? I got my Bachelor in environmental biology afte 4 years of hard work now working on my masters degree, possibly a PHD in the future. Do I hate it? Yes I hate school all the time. SO why do I do it? because I can show those around me I can, even as a failure. WHere is this gonna lead me to? I don't know.

just know that you're not alone, I feel nothing can spark my interest to try hard all the time. Just find some good friends, go chill, get motivated and get moving.

That doesn't make any sense. Please leave this thread if your not gonna post a useful way rather than be all high and mighty and just say "You're on a slippery slope" and expect me to translate that in good advice.

Ahead of what? I'm not looking to get in a fight, I just don't want idiots in here like him. I'm appreciating what Reise, JStar, and N-San are saying. I don't like one sentence responses, usually they're just being smart asses like that.

I don't like grammar nazis either, I had a water polo game today and my head hurts so I guess that's a reason I'm not in super-grammar mode now.

EDIT: Mods can lock this thread, I've found some good advice. Thanks guys.

NO, it is a slippery slope, and a very steep one at that. I was in the same situation my last 3 years in highschool thats 3/4 years. And it took alot of people, teachers who actually cared and a really great friend to help me out of it. I finished school in an alternative education program where i work 4 days a week go to school one. I only had to do half an extra year to finish. There is lots of options once you hit rock bottom, but trust me you don't wanna be near it. I actually lost alot of friends because i just skipped every day practically had no will to go to school. That's all i got.
I die every Monday at 7am and reborn Friday at 4pm

Luckily I never had this feeling. The problem with school today is people see it as why am I learning all the material?! But after you take a step back, school is not about teaching you information that will follow you for the rest of your life. You are learning how to learn in high school. I set a goal for myself, which helped me get to where I am today. Maybe saying " I want to go to college there." will help you see where you want to be. I agree with what you are saying, but losing hope now will forever haunt you for years. These years are a set up for what you will be in the future. It would be horrible for you to finally discover what you want to be or do, and learn that you are not capable of achieving your goal.

thats the problem with our education system, teachers dont tell students why they have to learn math, english, etc.

Let me tell you why: you study not because its supposed to help you learn "life skills" but just make you a smarter person. Nobody takes a TI-84 calculator to work but doing math makes you a more analytical person, for example. Memorizing formulas or facts, or solving problems, writing essays, they pretty much don't have anything to do with those so called "life skills". What they do is make you a smarter and intelligent person.

If your looking for "life skills", thats what college is for. Consider high school as a mental primer and a place where you develop study habits and become more mature and smarter. And then consider college the place where you develop professional skills that you will rely on to put a roof over your head and get something to eat.

Think of what I just wrote and maybe you'll look at school in a different light and be more motivated to try..

It seems like just about everyone hates school where I go to.
Everyone's so meh about school and I used to dread having to wake up and goto school.
But, now in the 10th grade I've learned to love every one of my classes and I'm fine with going to school.

Moral: Learn to love your classes, find the good in them. Make amazing friends and you are set =]

I could not stand High School, in Georgia. I hated it and will always hate it, it's felt like 3 years of delayed adulthood. A massive waste of time. It felt like I was "learning" the same concepts over and over and over again. Being in a region I hated didn't help either. I would say I had depression during my Junior and Senior year, I just did not want to be there. On the surface everything was fine but I hated every second of High School down here. The people, the teachers, and the state. Now I'm in college, so far so good. I don't know if it's because I chose where I wanted to go but I feel like I need to do well here. My whole life was turned upside down when I moved down South.

so if i get this straight, no offense meant..

this is a topic in which you state you can do better for
school but don't feel like doing anything, but when one
of our members litteraly tells you that you get offended?

i don't see the point of this topic besides you telling
us that you can't be bothered to do your best for your
education, meaning you have an attitude problem that will
haunt you the rest of your life if you are not willing to
change that, and that's the end of the story.

or did i misunderstand?

oh, and fyi, i'm doing a master in industrial design
(design for interaction to be specific) and i get courses
like electronics, mechanics, psychology, etc. not because
i will make electronics myself, calculate every piece of
metal i design myself, or do every bit of consumer research
myself, but to make me able to have an idea of what is and
what's not possible. idk i'm used to be around people that
like to put effort into what they do.

Yay join the club.

I can't motivate you. I can't even motivate myself.
I'm carried by the Dutch education system. So emigrate :)

Dutch education system is divided in levels, do well in primary school -> go to highest level. In the highest level grades are 1-10 with 5.5 being a passing grade. Only if you want to study medicine or some other lottery study your grades will matter. If you don't want that, you can get your degree with 6 (=5.5) average and still go to a 'good' university. (Dutch universities are public and most are somewhere in the top 150 of the world. Not bad, but no Harvard either. You'd still have to work your ass off for Ivy League)

How is he helping me by dropping in and saying "Sounds like your on a slippery slope." I think we can all say that, yes, I'm on a slippery slope. There's no need to elaborate on that. Maybe some advice from him, who claims to be a superior member because he has 10k posts, would be helpful. But all I see is people who don't try to be a jackass and they're offering me some good advice. And I plan on using it.

mehh man i have the same problem. I have no motivation at all at this moment. it's because i'm in the final year of VWO (which takes 6 year), so i've been around for 6 years. any things that motivates right now is getting this done so I can go to university.

High school is party time.
Just make sure you get the passing grade in every class (which is not really hard honestly).
And when u get to college/university thats when u need to get serious.

Nick Invaders wrote:Dude, go for high grades in school.

As i said, high school's grades are not that important, unless you're planning
to go to some place that NEEDS good grades to get in (Lawyer, medicine, etc)
In the case where the guy wants to be a carpenter or a mechanic or any hands on jod that requires no university/college.....grades are useless(well you have to pass at least, but passing is a joke)

Yes, exactly what i was going to say!

At least thats how it is in the UK. Until you go to college/university all you have to worry about is passing. Dont be one of these people who missed out on the social life so that they could revise all night, just to get a top grade. It wont make any noticeable difference (they will say it does but thats just so they can justify their mistakes).

Oh and i didnt have a clue what i wanted to do until i was around 19. Before then i was just doing random college courses and making sure i passed so if i decided to go to uni.. i could, even though i wasn't interested in uni's at all back then.
