Buying Laptop
Buying Laptop
I'll get right to the point
#1 http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.ph ... BK.300.358
#2 http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetai ... &langid=EN
I know #2 has more...'updated' parts but I really have no idea which one to go with. Both are relatively good deals from what I've seen.
Any opinions?
edit:
use for casual everyday + somewhat gaming (sc2 when it finally comes out?). I have a pimp desktop for all hardcore gaming, i just want an okay dedicated card.
edit2:
gateway has 9 cell battery, acer has 6 cell. Decisions decisions..

Re: Buying Laptop
I think you'll regret buying a gaming laptop especially considering you already have a main rig. I would go with the UL30-VT from Asus. It has a Nvidia 210M and a integrated chip which give it a ton of battery life. It will be ok for casual gaming and it will be a ton easier to carry around or just use while on the couch.

I only say b/c I have a Vaio FW (16inch 6.5lb) and it's a bitch to take anywhere. I find solace in that it is a really good comp, but I kinda wish I had gone for something smaller and lighter that I would be able to take to classes with me.
Edit: Otherwise, go with the Acer. I hate Gateway with a passion and the FX series is fugly.

Re: Buying Laptop
Second got a little better stuff inside but i'd take 1st one just because it has nVidia video card. That Acer shit doesn't have one so it's pointless to buy laptop which doesn't have good video card.

Second one has a more powerful and up-to-date card =p
I won't be using it for hardcore gaming, just the casual stuff. Things that are more demanding will be done on my desktop. My goal was to find a laptop that isn't completely unable to game (integrated card) but isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg.
This is so I can bring my computer to another persons house an not be limited to a half-ass laptop. My sister got a 549$ one with integrated graphics and 2ghz processor and it annoys me =\ Also will be used for university..

Put 6 or 7 pounds of rocks in a back pack along with a few pounds of books and walk a mile with it. Im serious. You will get a really good sense of how bad an idea it is to buy a gaming laptop for college.

Lols I dare you to game in college.
I'm in Highschool and with my classes I can hardly play a game of Starcraft anymore..
Can't imagine how busy a college student is.

I have several friends in university that still game.
Re: Buying Laptop
Think everyone taking the gaming aspect a little too far >.> It's not really a 'gaming laptop', just a laptop with a dedicated card that doesn't cost 1000+.
I'm not worried about the weight either. 3.2kg -> 7 pounds is nothing
It's hard to find a 15.6" with a dedicated card that's as cheap as this. The bestbuy one is the first I've seen with an i5 and dx11 card and I was amazed it's not more =\

Re: Buying Laptop
i still game a lot in uni, it is really not that busy, i more bored then anything.
i got a minipc myself for uni so i could bring it to class and what not, it works great while i still have my main pc. I would suggest doing that even though i know you want to be able to game on a laptop, but ask yourself how often are you really going to be able to use your laptop for gaming?

High school is actually much busier than college.
My major is Informatics. Specifically Human Computer Interaction Design. UI stuff.
On a side note, people don't really study to play or make computer games. Yes, there are majors directed at programming for computer games and the like but you need a wider skill set if you want to stay employed. Gaming is a huge business, but it is operated by only a few people.
Re: Buying Laptop
^I read an article the other day that gaming companies are now looking for programmers who can also draw high quality pictures by hand >.>.
So if you can draw awesome 3d scenery + code, go for it.

Re: Buying Laptop
I'd go with the 2nd because of its processor and more up-to-date gfx card. I bought an acer laptop from Best Buy for Christmas, and so far i love it.
