Well this forum is a lot of exercise. I use Firefox which has a built in spell check, that way I also learn from my mistakes and can correct them easily.
I've learned loads from just the spell check. (For example, I thought it was 'spellcheck', but apparently they're two single words, spell check. In Dutch, these kind of words are typically brought together in one word.)

Sometimes I feel like i owe it to the 'internet' for my,hm...basically, everything. I'm the 'smartshit' I am today from the internet, but with the internet, also comes my compulsive retarded side :D

I take that back, I blame /b/.

For good grammar, you only need to learn the basic rules. These basic rules are; sentence structure, spelling, capitals and paragraphs.

Here is a quick example

John was walking down the road, with his belly hanging over his trousers, to go to the shops.
Note the comma's before and after the comma's are the important part of the sentence, without which it does not make sense, the middle part can be removed.

I've studied in the US for 2 years and that's what helped me start the foundation for my English speaking/writing. I'd say my Luxembourgish and my English are at the same level. :)

I'd like to say the internet has helped me do better with spelling and grammar.

Looking at my first posts on this forum, I could hardly understand what I was trying to ask or say. Lol.

Where to place all the commas and periods, etc.

like...above, I probably made a mistake with the comma (and in this row too).

I don't really think there are set rules in when you need to use a comma.
In Dutch, a comma is typically placed before 'maar','hoewel' and 'echter'.

I personally use the comma way too much, (there I go again) I don't really know why. Somewhere along the road it just got into my writing style.
Just use it where you think it feels right :)

edit: good example of wrong and excessive usage of comma's viewtopic.php?f=12&t=119135

This site looks pretty solid. I tried to find a place that would start you off with a few intro to English lessons, but to no avail. You seem to have a firm grasp of the language so I think you can handle this stuff. Message me and let me know how it goes if you use it.

Good luck.

I'm strongly considering reporting that post for incorrect English in a "help me with my English" topic.

"With his belly hanging over his trousers" is not a dependent clause. It is a prep phrase. No commas. Same with the second sentence.
A sentence with a dependent clause would be: "Charlie Daniels, a mean fiddle player, is my favorite.
"A mean fiddle player," can not stand alone; it is a dependent clause and needs to be surrounded by commas.

Ok, lol.
Yeah, i know here is a good place to practice. But if people keep 'fixing' others, it could ending on a flame war.

But anyways, feel free to correct me if i get something wrong.
Because i'm moving, and the admision test for that college is an English Test, basically.

Oh, and cpinney is right. We have people between us with great lexic and grammar where we can learn from. :)

Someone asked about comma usage. I'm usually a comma whore, I use them way too much, and my sentences end up going on, and on, and on. But one thing that always stuck for me is from my sophomore year English class was FANBOYS. For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So. If you see one of those words, a comma before them is usually called for. Here is a good site for an explanation of your FANBOYS.

Edit: For every rule in the English language, there's about five to ten exceptions, it's quite annoying.

The period goes inside the bracket when ending sentences.

if im not mistaken i can employ (;) as im not breaking the sentence then, but im not 100%. Ahh **** this my grammar has never been good no point trying to employ what i think i know i know for the most part i can write correctly but not perfectly i do need to learn though but rather not type perfect on a forum easier to be lazy and omit full stops.
