Int hybrid spear using strictly weapon skills

Post by Vicodus »

There is a lot of threads and talk about hybrid builds but none of them seem to answer the question Im really wondering about.

I played a pure str glaive at the 80 cap and just recently came back to SRO. I loved the playstyle of heuksal but I wanted to deal more damage. I am contemplating on making an int hybrid spear, using strictly heuksal skills. I was thinking of going 2:1 (stats added each levelup).

I want to fight the same way a glaive does, but simply give up some HP for higher damage output.

Something like: Heuksal 100 - Light 100 - Fire 60 - Ice 40

2:1 ends up being 3:2 when you factor in the 1:1 you get each level.

So my thought process is this:
Spear instead of glaive due to higher mag balance then phys balance.
Max light for max magic damage buff (to maximize the greater portion of your damage output) + max parry for added defense against both mag and phys attacks.
60 Fire for 13% more phys damage + added magic defense
40 Ice for some phys defense and 30% snow shield

I really dont know how this is going to balance out as far as damage output vs. survivability goes. If you have any suggestions on a better mastery combo, do share and please explain. Also, would an overall 2:1 or even 3:1 ratio be better than 3:2 for this kind of build?

At what point does a hybrid deal more damage with weapon skills than nukes?

personally i'll suggest u go 100 hesukal/fire, 60 ice and 40 light.

Since u're going to use weapon skills totally without considering nukes, fire will contribute to even more damage. lightning wont do nearly enough damage to counter damage reduction thru not using nukes. 40 light should give you a decent grasswalk as well as some parry ratio. physical attack will be dependent on strength mostly so i really suggest u get a higher physical increase rather than magical increase. 60 ice is a suggestion and will probably be the same if u change it with light, just that u'll do higher damage.

i think u'll do better if u go 3:1 since u're concentrating on physical attacks and just want int to increase ur overall damage. crit will still be very impt so u shld have slightly more strength, and also for survivability.

at 3:1 str a 30-35% snow shield works fine, personally i'd stay with about 87% phys balance and go 40 cold with prot.

personally 30% snow shield will be enough since u're going 3:1. TOo much and it'll start draining ur MP and leave none for ur skills.

Thanks for the input guys. I've been doing some more reading and thinking...

40 Ice with Prot sounds good.

If the SRO combat formula is balanced, it should be an even trade-off as far as damage output and survivability is concerned (in PvP situations at least). Then it just comes down to gear and skill.

Another factor to think about with hybrids is the higher crit stats on mag weapons should compensate for the fact that your using phys abilities with less Str behind them then a pure Str (yes, making the crit stat on your weapon very important for a hybrid using weapon skills). So the physical part of the damage being dealt gets doubled more often while having consistent magic damage output from Imbue+Magic-based weapon (Spear/Sword).

I had a pure Str blader at the 70 cap...same story as the pure Str glaive I had: loved the play style (weapon skills) but, in the case of the blader, got KS'd way to easily (wanted more damage output). In theory, a hybrid build using Bichion and a sword should have a comparable PvP balance to that of a pure Str Blader (less defense/HP & more damage output) while being harder to KS.

Hopefully a hybrid will give me what I'm looking for as far as, wanting more damage output from weapon skills while still being viable in PvP. If the Heuksal toon turns out good, I just might have to make a Bicheon version.

Only time will tell.

Edit: typo
