Hi i both of my big toes are in-grown, my pedatrist just said to massage it in the shower and cut my big toes often and straight and not too short. The reason its in-grown is because i used to pick my nails alot when i was little. Does the surgery hurt? Is there a way i can prevent surgery besides what my pediatrist told me?

I had this as a kid. It wasn't bad at all. They sprayed something on my toe to kind of freeze the skin so I wouldn't feel the needle as much. Toe swells up with the local anesthetic they used. Then they cut the left edge of the nail off, down to my cuticle I believe. Something like that, this was probably 15 years ago... Then they bandaged it up and I just had to keep it clean with peroxide and the like until it grew back into place.

Not getting enough vitamin C also causes ingrown toenails. Drink your orange juice people.
