So the charger smoked
some weed.
No, but seriously, i plugged in my li-ion battery into the charger ( the wrong way ) and the charger "smoked" a little bit. I took it out cause it mighta exploded or something o.O
i was trying to charge teh RC coptor so yeah, is the charger safe to use? can i use it again? it smelled funny, so i guess something happened inside it. not the real genius here on some electronics, and i dont want to burn the house down or anything.
I took the charger out where its cold to let it cool down before i even try using it again. ( the light broke on it so i still dont know if it would work ._.)

+1. Thought he invented a charger + smoker hybrid baby.
Depends where the smoke was coming from. If from the battery, than get new batteries, but if from the charger itself, something prob busted or is exposed now.

Re: So the charger smoked
from the charger
I got advice that the result that it was bad, or could still work
so i charged it in ( the right way ) and it seems fine other than the smell that was there earlier.. charged it for about an hour, so the charger itself is a lil hot, so is it still possible to use it without any harm?

Chargers will usually get hot when charging. How hot. If it's ouch this thing is HOT!, than that means it's broken and is pulling wayy too much power.

NO! Do not use it. If a smoke comes out of some electrical devise it's not ok to use it.
There could be melted wires which can cause shortcuts. Ur gonna burn your house down.

Re: So the charger smoked
i got the complete opposite input. lol, it was like;
if its fine, you can keep using it, and no, itll never burn your house down because its only a charger, all that it can do is damage itself.
:o?

i make power tools smoke all the time we keep using them though. Just don't leave it plugged in over night or while someone isn't home or while sleeping.

Re: So the charger smoked
ok. so im charging it right now ( been 3.5 hours ) and its ok, cept the battery might be a little warmer than it regularly is, but maybe its just me being paranoid lol
Re: So the charger smoked
Visual smoke is a sign of 2 things:
1) Wire got too hot, burned through the rubber covering or plastic casing.
2) Fuse or some connectors got loose and burning plastic.
Either way, if it's freaking smoking, it's a sign one of those have already happened. All it will take will be a power surge for sparks to fly. The chances are small the sparks will get out or catch fire inside a tiny charger. For stuff like powertools where you're nearby when you have them plugged in it's fine, but for stuff where you leave around the house for hours on end, I would just fork over the cash and get a new one. Better pay for a new charger than a new house imo.
Like I said, smoke = something melted. If you're lucky, whatever was melted will cover the exposed point and it'll be fine.

At first i thought the topic was about a Dodge Charger.
Maybe your charger is steam powered?
