schrodinger's cat is a quantum mechanics experiment, but can also be used in the philosophical field that questions if events happen without an observer. basically, a cat is in a sealed box and a glass of poison is release after a while. the theory says that the cat is both alive and dead until an observer looks into the box, at which point it is either alive or dead.
