I heard you can get yourself unbanned by changing the MAC address, is that true?

No, console ban= xbox serial is banned, only way to change that...is to put a new mobo in xD. Also, if your Xbox Live account is banned, I don't suggest using the same HDD on a new xbox, the ban data could possibly be stored on it.
