Did you hear the end? We have SpartanS on the ground. If this is not based on the book, then IDK what it is, because spartans had been long extinct before Halo CE (Besides 117)
Reach was a planet that got blown up by the covenant, the planet in the trailer is being blown up...and the game just so happens to be called Halo: Reach...
yes, i heard the end; did u? he says, "This is Sierra 259. You've got Spartans on the ground, sir. We're not going anywhere." furthermore, earlier u can here a woman say, "This is Sierra 320, prepped for combat insertion." these 2 lines prove theyre not based on the books simply bcus the call #s in the Master Chief aka John aka Spartan 117's unit did not go above 150. there were originally 150 candidates half of which actually entered the Spartan-II program. 35ish (i cant remember the exact # off the top of my head) made it through the training and augmentation at the end in good enough shape to continue service. just over 30 spartans in this unit are present at Reach. the Master Chief and 2 others were sent on a space-op to destroy some nav data (1 of which went MIA) the rest were sent to the ground to fend off the invasion force. this was right before Halo CE not long before. after Halo CE in the 3rd book, First Strike we learn a handful of the Spartans from the unit (Fred, Kelly, Linda, Will, Grace, Li, Anton, & of course John) that fought on Reach survived it.
