I agree that flaming someone for posting they killed a unique is lame and unnecessary. I also agree that, given the choice between only the two, sometimes its better to just let a question be unanswered than to say "Use search noob".

OTOH, the people of this forum (the players of the game) have become more and more experienced (higher Lv) over time. Whereas there was a time most of the people on this forum were new to the game, now-a-days there are many high level players (and by high level I mean 65+) on the forum and in game.

It's pretty much like every game forum I have even seen . . . at first everyone is friendly because no one knows jack about the game or each other, and they are all looking for the answers. But, after time, people become a lot more experienced and knowledgable (of not only the game, but also the people playing it), and this group of people can start to become annoyed by both the newcomers lack of experience, and by other experienced players they do not agree with. Also, due to their tenure in a forum, they may feel more at "home", and more likely to be rude to others.

Now, it doesn't mean it has to happen that way . . . but I find thats just human nature. IOW, what makes you think that this forum/game would be any different? I suppose a friendly reminder to be nice isn't that bad of a thing, but at the same time, no ones forcing you to read the posts you disagree with. Furthermore, there are a lot of people in the world who are not afraid of confrontation and/or speaking their mind, and are in fact annoyed by those people who try to make everything seem peachy perfect and actually run away from confrontation. Quite frankly, people who want situations to ALWAYS be non-confrontational and perfectly mannered annoy the sh*t out of me . . . its like they don't live in reality.

Now to briefly respond to some quotes in this thread:

This is just my opinion, but in that HuyFong topic, there were a lot of people who used it to openly to flame him and/or others. Most of the posts there were plain old rude or totally off-base. I didn't post on the topic because I had nothing to do with it, unlike some people who thought they could flame someone and not have to deal with any retributions.

So, a Lv2x from Xian is saying that high levels from Troy are "totally off-base" about HuyFong? Seriously, how do you know enough to even form an opinion? Maybe if you played on Troy and knew the entire story, you would understand why he was flamed.

Also, when I first brought up the HuyFong situation months ago, I didn't once call him any names. OTOH, he, and many other members of this forum, completely ripped into me and flamed me for bringing the obvious out in the open. Heh - and you wanna talk about people "who thought they could flame someone and not have to deal with any retributions".

You dont HAVE to comment, the forum WILL survive without your input. Let the mods moderate and go spend your time on topics that you find constructive.

The post about me got so bad that even one of my closest friend in game and on this forum was concerned. It wasn't until last night when I look him in the eyes and I told him straight up (in real-life) that he is sure I didnt do those things.

I didn't take a screenshot, but you straight up did a Global saying you had just bought a character days after you acquired Athena (that was the main impetus for me even making a point about it - because I was 100% positive, even then, I was correct). Oh, I also was on Troy, about your same level, so I always saw what you were (or weren't) stalling, not to mention could easily see that with the amount of time you spent on the HuyFong char., it would be technically impossible for you to build Athena on the side in the time frame you claimed to have.

Add this to your past posting history, your totally unbelievable stories, past people who knew you saying that you straight up told them what you did, and your total lack of rebuttal on all points, and anyone who still believes your side of the story is a Complete F*cking Moron. I called this out months ago and just by your reaction alone (you flaming me non-stop, and me not flaming you at all, just asking tough questions) I could tell you're full of it.

i dunno what thread it was but someone was comparing the traffic here to the traffic at tavern and some other SRO site and this had like 2x or 3x the traffic than tavern. now what does that tell you? more people are comming here, possibly some from tavern, bringing all their tavernesque postings with them, and then there are people who just post how they feel wether its inflamitory or not. basically, the more people that come here, the more personalitys that come and the more clashes these personalities are going to create. its evolution. deal with it.

A few people who have nothing better to do than troll and spam all day can radically change the face of a forum. So to the people who don't play SRO, but still post here: either find another game, or find another forum, or go the hell outside. Nobody here is your BFF. Message board != real human interaction.

Forums change. They grow, they fall apart, they mature, they die off. Several months ago there were far fewer high level players here, and there was no Q&A forum. But the fact is that in the time this forum's been around (going on a year now), a lot of content has been created. A lot of guides have been stickied, and a lot of threads are there with the information you need. Despite that, we've given new players an entire forum for asking their question for the hundredth time, so they don't have to search! So while some people cross the line into actually being cruel to new players, I can't muster up too much sympathy for someone who can't find it in themselves to even look at the index page and read a forum description before posting in it.

That being said, there are some people who enjoy being harsh and who think it's cool to be disliked because it gives them some kind of rebel cred. We could do without that kind of attitude.

This isn't something that can be solved by monderation. It's very difficult and time-consuming to moderate threads where there's no actual flame, but one guy says something demeaning, and then a bunch of other posters "lol" at it, or go off on a tangent... If the mod team was to clean up one such thread, they'd have to do the same thing to 50% of the new threads that are posted. People would complain about fascism and where did my post go and it would be a nightmare.

This thread by itself is a pretty good step, though.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Franky, im tired of all the people asking the same question over and over again and I don't care if they get flamed. Personally Chameleon, I dont think anyone on this forum is trying to get "some kind of rebel cred", I think they just post their opinion, which is the point of forums right? If its excessively rude, it is the moderator's job to take care of it. Instead of closing topics, just give people warnings, if they keep doing it increase the punishment.

You're too hung up on rights this and rights that. On the internet, it's more about ability. You and I and everyone else have the ability to post, to browse, and so on. The only people who should be concerned with "rights" are the admins and the mods, because they're the only ones with the abilities to enforce rights here. Thus, they are the ones who decide what rights any of us have. Not your idea of what must logically be so, not the UN's declarations, and not the US Constitution. The point of this thread is to discuss, to argue, to convince, or to be convinced.

I am hardly that kinda girl. LOL I have had my fair share of flame wars here and at Tavern, I have played this game since the day after it came out and fought with everyone in it at some point or another. I can hardly be called someone who is afraid of confrontation or doesnt speak their mind.

That being said, I dont mind ppl arguing. I tihnk that is kinda fun aamof. What I DO mind is ppl just adopting this attitude of condescending superiority. Im level 70 and have been for longer than most ppl here. THere was a time when Fly and I were the highest level players posting here. So what? I used to laugh at the noobs that posted privately, but Id never be so insecure in my own status to stoop to public flaming of what amounts to SRO children.

Ill also repeat what someone else posted, it is NOT always easy to find what you are looking for with search. Second, when the servers go down or there is new news, several ppl can post a topic at the same time. And those of us who have been here a long time have seen the pics of Euro SRO etc since the idea was first broached, but what if you just discovered SRO last week, last month, whatever?

When I started there WAS no place to ask questions, no one knew. I started at Tavern a month or so after the game started when I asked someone I knew a question and they told me that was the best place to find answers. In turn, I direct ppl HERE for the same reasons. Id never ask someone to be all sunshine and rainbows, but such jaded negativity is NOT SRF. This place is changing, yes. Im not adverse to change. But I am adverse to open rudeness for no other reason thanyou know the answer and you think they should also.

A little intiutive reasoning ppl. You do notice that some speak poor english, some are inexperienced, some are just not that bright. But that isnt a crime and picking on them is the eqivalent of kicking a three legged dog. It says more about you than them.
