Yeh like you said, how can we spot botters?

And is the only purpose of the protector to take these losers out? Coz i when I first stumbled on them (protectors), i thought it would kill the monsters (like champions) that automatically attack you in their range.

I just find it wierd that the SilkRoad designers gave a tool, to be used by players to get rid of botters, isnt that the responsibility of the designers?

Youcan eaily spot botters, botters do not move, they stay in one spot, and if a mob spawns next to them or gets close to them, the bot automatically attacks them. Also, if a person is just standing there imbueing his weapon every 5 or 6 seconds, thats another sign of botting.

Bots can definitely move characters. I doubt that anyone using a bot in SRO would get a bot that didn't move though-- grinding bots move around in a set area and automatically engage combat with mobs, killing, potting, etc. Some pick up all the gold/items they see. Some leave them. Some only attack one type of monster. I'm sure they have bots that attack a wide range of monsters in the same area. The botters might move around in a funny zig zag patttern or in big circles looking for monters. They'll probably be in the same general area for hours and hours, silently grinding. They might killsteal you. They're not being dicks. They're just cheating you and everyone else investing time in the game. You can yell at them all you want-- they might or might not respond with an autoresponse. Some bots are pretty advanced--> if you follow them for a while they might repeatedly ask "Why are you following me?" I even hear they have bots that can do trade runs...

Once I thought I had spotted botter after watching his pattern for 15mins so I spawned protector there. At the same time some noob runs to scene and goes straight to protector and hits it - bam! dead noob and the suspect lived and I couldn't set up new protector for hour. This noob then asked what was that shiny floating thing and how it could kill him so fast. I don't think the game gives any help about what protectors are and so this happens...

Protectors are something you can buy at npc shop for 500. you click the mob a botter is near and it'll take the name of that mob. so when the botter moves on to neext target which will be protector if you place it right, they will automatically atk it. when it dies it is an insta-gib (instant kill) on that player. regardless of bots hp.

Yeah.. what out for these... I had never seen them before and was hunting for the soldier flag drops last night.. seen this red thing floating and it had the mob type name on it , so I think to myself , sure this uber monster thing is going down, here comes an SOx drop or some sweet xp... then BLAM I'm dead , 10500xp lost , and I'm like WTF this was a white mob and I'm dead??

a lvl 29 guy in my guild was pking outside of jangan and someone spawned a protector and he went and killed it. he was so pissed off. we just laughed at him on vent.
