Driver Ed
Hey, in my state(North Carolina) people younger than 18 are require to take driver ed to be able to drive. However if your 18+ it is not require. I did try to take driver ed before, but can't stand my teacher, because she will kick you out if you're chewing gum, talking to your friend, texting, sleeping etc. My driver ed kick me out on the last day which sucks.. so i never took that class again. I'm 17 now and going to be 18 in June 2010. What will the DMW make me do when i go to apply for my License when i'm 18?? (test, road test?)

Re: Driver Ed
idk how it is in nc, but in florida, u have to take a test on road signs and some other stuff, and drive around with the instructor in the car and they will ask u to perform a few things

Re: Driver Ed
Getting kicked out for anything except gum chewing is a completely valid reason.
They will most likely make you take a small written multiple choice test, and then a driving test where you have to drive for a bit, make sure you can turn well, stop well, park well, etc.

Really? how hard is it to not do these things? if you are there and talking and stuff and not even listening, why do u want to take the class in the first place?

Re: Driver Ed
meh drivers ed here cost $400, but it was easy, and i chewed gum, and i texted my gf who was beside me the whole time lmfao, i didnt even listen, i just passed all the test lmfoa cuz it was so easy
Re: Driver Ed
That sucks.
In high school I could take the class and it was free besides the taxes.
The class is not required for PA.
You sit and take a screen test for the permit.
For the license you drive around with a dude for about 5-10 min and parallel park once thats it.

Off topic to your driver test question, but if you're sleeping in class or texting a lot, chatting with friends, generally not paying attention, you probably should be kicked out of class.
I had a professor in college who would refuse to allow male students to wear hats in class. Female students were allowed to wear hats if they wanted. The guys had to take their hats off, or get kicked out.
Gum chewing was strictly forbidden for all students.

American schools, at least the one I went to when I went to school 13+ years ago, seemed more about memorizing information rather than actually learning things and understanding the connections between different concepts or events.
I think kids should have plenty of opportunity to socialize, chew gum, text, chat with friends, etc. at school. It just needs to stay out of the classroom unless the teacher has those things as part of their lesson plans. It's up to the teacher how the class is run. Ultimately, everyone should be there to learn in class and socialize mostly out of class.

That's how it was in Pennsylvania when I got my license about 14 years ago. I'd think it's the same today. Take a test on a computer at the DMV, get your permit. Go home and practice driving with responsible licensed drivers (e.g., your parents) during the daytime for a couple months or so. Come back to DMV and do a road test with a cop. Pass and get your license.
I did have drivers' ed in high school. It was just another course with everything else we took.

i haven't heard anything about it. anyways azilius if you haven't booked your test you can still book it and if the strike ends before your test date you can take test and not have to worry.
