Surround Sound Problem

Post by rumpleKillskin »

Well today we finally set up our new 50'' tv in our basement, and it is great. So far there have not been any problems except for one that annoys me. We have Bose surround sound that we have owned for at least 8-9 years. We have never encountered problems with it, and it has been reliable since day one.

The problem is that the surround sound works for the main video ( comcast cable). However, when switching over to another video output, we don't receive sound. We do go to the surround sound controller and switch it to the other outputs, but nothing. Can anyone help me on this issue? We are using a HDMI cord for the xbox, which is the main thing the TV is used for.

If you need more information, I will try to help out.

Thanks.

Well you have had it for 8-9 years, so its easy to say that maybe its just not
compatible with a more current/up to date output source or even the tv/dvd/blu-ray
or the sounds source hardware location.

Best bet would be checking our the manufacturers (Bose) website to see if the equipment
you have is even compatible.

Also check the HDMI cable, you have to remember unlike a scart cable system where
there are different cables for the audio and sound a HDMI carries both from the
Blu-Ray/console/tv box to the television and if its not working or even slightly
ajar (not connected correctly) this could account for the problem.

Connect your surround sound to only your TV and nothing else.
Connect everything else to your tv, turn on your surround sound and set it to "TV"

I have a Sony surround sound system so its a bit less complex, not sure about your BOSE one though >_<

To Crimson:

That is the current set up. The surround s. goes into the tv, and everything else goes as you described.

To Satman: We had a TV from last year that was working just fine with this setup. However, that TV broke and here we are. I notice there is one wire that is not plugged into the TV. It has a yellow ending, and looks like it leads into the sound. The only hard part is this TV requires two people to bring down, and the cord is essentially on the backside of the TV. I am gonna look into it further later, but this could be it.

It is just frustrating not having a TV for 2.5 months and when you finally end the drought there are still problems haha.

WE got it. We needed to use another wire to connect the TV to the Bose. Hard to explain, but we are guud.
