The thing about ketosis is it is pretty natural. It's a diet of fats, protein, and fiber from vegetables. (I didn't throw that in, but I also had to eat lots of veggies.) This is what man originally lived on.. animals and veggies. Fat, protein and fiber.
I agree that doing this long term could possibly be bad, but I couldn't see myself doing it for a long time anyway. It gets old after awhile not being able to eat breads, pasta, etc.. I does burn fat really fast once your body switches over to it for a fuel source. It's pretty amazing actually. I did it for almost 2 months.. I'm actually on a "eat a small excess and build muscle diet now", not eating much fat atm.
Ketosis doesn't work by starving anything btw. Which, is another controversial topic in itself. haha.. Some say it's good to stress your body every now and then.
To each their own, I don't live on bacon grease 24/7, it was a short dieting technique that worked amazingly well.

Just an FYI, since you're talking like a know it all. If you use only ketosis, you will die, however not due to too much fat, etc. Your brain works best on glucose (aka sugar), which you don't get through ketosis. Fun fact; if you suspect someone is using mostly ketosis to supply their body of energy, smell their breath. It will be coated with acetone, and will smell "fruity".
I'll even map the pathway to death for ya;
Ketosis increases lipolysis (fat breakdown in layman's terms) <---- This is why you lost weight.
Lipolysis increases blood fatty acids
Blood Fatty Acids are an alternate energy source, however this leads to metabolic acidosis (decreased pH due to metabolic affects. It is not the same as respiratory acidosis).
Once you enter Metabolic Acidosis, you will enter into a diabetic coma (layman's term, you're screwed). [NOTE: You will try to compensate and balance this out with increased breathing, to rid the body of carbon dioxide (it's an acid, and you're suffering from a pH that's in the acid range); but you will not be able to compensate and will hyperventilate, and then enter a coma]
Diabetic coma -> Death. <----- This is why you don't rely on ketosis solely, and you're endangering your life by considering it as a good thing. Don't get me wrong, it's not horrible, but it is if you use it just by itself.
Now, you mentioned a 60/60/20 diet (which makes no sense, since that's 140, but whatever). With this you're endangering your body. Increase the carb amount and you'll be fine, since the breakdown of carbohydrates releases glucose (which becomes ATP, remember?) that the brain can use to function. The numbers you were probably trying to come up with were 60 (carbs) / 20 (fat) / 20 (protein). This is a healthy diet, however I doubt many people eat that many carbs. I Would guess most people are 40 / 30 / 30.
TL:DR ; Ketosis increases ketones (acetone, etc) in the body, which poison it. Eventually you'll enter a coma, and yes, you will die. This is not a "takes a long time" thing. This is a "A day of this and you're dead" thing.

You just described ketoacidosis, which is not a problem in a proper ketogenic diet. Some of the ketones are used for energy and excess is passed.. (you can by keto sticks to test urine.)
I will elaborate more when I get back from class. I'm not trying to act like a "know-it all" (thanks for the insult). I'm speaking from personal experience and a LOT of research and time put into fitness, dieting, etc.

I can remember all the times when I went into diabetic ketoacidosis ...I've always wondered growing up why did I have to check for these "ketones" when my blood glucose level was around 250 or higher. My body can't convert carbs to glucose by itself, so I gotta get an injection of insulin everytime I eat (type I diabetic). I can say from multiple experiences, it isn't good (I did lose a lot of weight one time, when I really didn't need to). Eventually you start feeling like utter shit from your blood turning acidic. Hell, it even damages your organs.
To sum it up, avoid Ketoacidosis at all costs XD
