ATI HD 5870, directx 11 cards releasing in 2 weeks

Apparently this gen is going to be able to 40 + fps crysis at 1080p ( max IQ, that is 4AA, 16AF ) and that is just awesome since we can finally not worry about gpu til new consoles release. Feel free to comment if this means anything to you.
Late comment but I am a bit disappointed on pricing since it will not be exactly mainstream at lunch but is nice to know the technology is here.

1080p is the height of your monitor correct?

Spoiler!

This is so annoying for me, i couldnt wait any longer for the new Intal Proccesor Chipset or this graphics card, so instead i got the 4890 which is doing its job for me atm
...
No 1080P is the High Definition Settings, the height of his monitor would be for example 1920 x 1080 (Resolution).

Is actually resolution, most commonly found on 24" monitors. It's also the standard for high definition tvs so this is actually the sweet spot for high end systems.

Im more interested in AMDs eyefinity, 7680x3200 resolution. Should be interesting. The whole 1080 thing isn't that amazing really, nothing really special.

If 1080p is true high definition, then what is...7680x3200?

Ive wondered that myself. What is 2560x1600? And anything above that for that matter. How are the monitor/TV manufacturers going to market a res that is over 1080p

Pretty cool I guess, but i'm sure having big lines in the middle would get pretty annoying, for me anyway lol.

Who cares about Crysis? Seriously.
Same with DX 11. This might be important to some well-off enthusiast, but in a year or so it'll all be common and affordable.

Hmm my gtx 285 plays it max @ 1080p 4-8AA 16AF with 20-30+ (obviously depending on location). There are obviously some other factors..but after seeing those results on my own PC I always thought the 4870x2 or the gtx 295 could hit the numbers you mentioned easily =o
Heh same goes for any top end card really..It's all about the enthusiasts - or someone looking to temporarily 'future proof' themselves graphically.

Excellent, the price of the 4890 will drop to peanuts.

There are already terms beyond 1080p and there are already cameras that can shoot beyond it. I believe they're for IMAX, idk:
1080p - 1920 x 1080
After that:
2K - 2048 x 1152
3K - 3072 x 1728
4K - 4096 x 2304

I've heard there are already 5Ks but idk.
