GDANSK, Poland (CNN) -- At least 20 world leaders gathered Tuesday in Poland to commemorate the start of World War II 70 years ago -- a conflict in which 6 million Poles died.
Germany's pre-dawn invasion began when the battleship Schleswig-Holstein fired on the Westerplatte military base in Gdansk harbor on September 1, 1939.
The attack set off a chain of events that eventually embroiled all of the world's major powers in the war.
Your thoughts please:( I cant believe its already been 70 years. Sooner or later, we'll be hearing news stories about "the last surviving WWII veteran".
its a shame that some people mock the 400,000 american soldiers that died for their freedom to go on the internet and deride american pussy soldiers and glorify everyone else's participation. just something I think about when I see people rage about t-34 > m1 sherman, japanese soldiers braver than american soldiers, american war crimes, americans did nothing while russians captured berlin, etc.

that was due to politics, at the time the flag was put on top of that one building america was there, infact i think america put up a flag and had to take it down so the russians can claim it.
Also, every major country that participated in WWII committed war crimes.

You do know that nazis today are dismissed as nothing more than minor annoyances, and they are, so I dont know what you're talking about. Racists are always around - its not like you can do anything about it.

If you knew who I was you'd know that I'm German. What I'm on about is that even after 70 years people (tend to) label Germans as "Nazis" by stereotype. It doesn't bother me, I just find it retarted.
Furthermore there are no "today's Nazis", only NEO-Nazis who are mostly white trash wannabes. The last living Nazis are all 80+.
Now back to Americans celebrating.

damn theres some quote im tryin to remember but it goes something like "war is a delight to those who have never fought in one" ... yah i saw it while playing cod4... so true
You know anyone can go to europe and find the same kind of idiots? There are ignorant people in every country. Collecting stupid americans into one video doesn't mean that all americans are stupid.
Gee I bet you think your so much smarter than americans. Guess its time for a little self reflection of your own intelligence.

I completely understand that. Its unfortunate that its extremely easy to correlate Germans with Nazism even today, but hey, you cant fool history. WWII was probably the biggest event of the 20th century, so it would be hard to shed yourselves of that kind of image. But trust me - sensible foreigners will never think that way and will always acknowledge the strengths of Germany (ie engineering).

Couldnt have said it better. Ignorance and jealousy go hand in hand for anti-Americans.

Well some see kamikazi actions as bravery. IMO it's just plain stupidity.
I don't think too much about it, but I'm sure gratefull for everything America did to free Europe. (and I just love WW II games haha).
