Re: Aion
I don't think it will take the "throne" from WoW.
Though personally I find Aion more interesting than WoW. Maybe I even dislike WoW... Partly for the annoying cartoon graphics, and the fact that it turned some of my friends into creepy geeks who speak WoW slang even outside of the game. That effect has pretty much worn off by now though.
Still, I'm gonna stay super careful and ever vigilant while trying Aion so I wont end up like that

Re: Aion
I heard about 1/2 of WoW will leave WoW for Aion. That's about 4 million players.
Dunno what source it came from.

Sure, then a few months later they come back to WoW.
You can't quit WoW... only AFK from it...

Re: Aion
i've "quit" wow numerous times for other games. i end up trying them, finding them dissappointing, and returning to wow. having played the aion beta, i do find it interesting, but the community is lacking. i have long time friends on wow and i play with and for them. its hard to leave that kinda thing for another game just because it looks pretty.

My honest opinion is that World of Warcraft will stay at the top for a little longer, but the game is getting old. Aion be the top? Who knows.. a lot can happen from now and 2 years.

Luckily Cataclysm changes everything of the game since it kinda destroys the old world and rebuids it; also adding flying into Azeroth.

Oh well, I quit the game for now (it was quite hard the first week cause I wanted to play) that I dont have time to play it.
I'll be back for Cataclysm... If I have time to play it

Re: Aion
Never said Aion will have 11million users. WoW can be played on mostly any computer is because it was made 5 years ago. Last I checked 5 years ago in technology is like.. lulwut joke compared to now. Makes sense why an emachine can run it on max, right?

Re: Aion
I doubt it. WoW has a large religious following that will refuse to move on to other games because, in their minds, everything else is a WoW clone and therefore sucks. Also, Aion would have to somehow match blizzard's excellent support and server capacity, something I see as a pretty difficult task.

Yes and no. WoW can be played on almost any computer not just because it's outdated, but because Blizzard really aimed for scalability so a large variability of specs can run it. They're doing the same thing for SC2. For a business point of view, it's a smart move especially for an MMO title.
As for the OP: Aion's graphical requirement is a bottleneck for players. Those who will struggle with even the minimum settings will naturally opt out from the game, unless they decide to upgrade their hardware. However, much like Blizzard, NCSoft might have taken this into account, which could explain why some crappy computers can still run Aion - it's not as demanding as it looks.
But as always, graphics isn't everything. As cartoonish WoW may look like, it still tops the charts, even against the release of MMOs with much superior graphics such as AoC, Warhammer, EQ2, and LotR Online. In fact, as of last year, the next P2P after WoW in terms of subscribers barely had 2 million. Will Aion fall to this group of MMOs? Is it just another pretty face in the crowd?
NCSoft took a good amount of tips from WoW, and they are apparent in Aion. They took what works and was still able to make it original. For it to make a dent on WoW's playerbase, NCSoft needs not just to rely on word of mouth. I still have to see a TV ad for Aion. Regardless, it is a revolutionary game in terms of its origins. Korean MMOs are infamous for its grind, and as Aion steps away from it, the game's success will surely inspire other Korean developers to start emulating its elements.
Can't wait for it to come out.

Re: Aion
Aion will never kill WoW.
About 11 M subs of WoW, no one knows how many of them are alter chars or gold farming bots in China servers unless they ban there like they do in Western versions.

This basically, but any game has a chance to surpass WoW.

Re: Aion
Who cares if Aion kills WOW? A LOT of people buy pop music, Mcdonalds and Budweiser beer. That doesn't mean they're the best. It means that they are cheap and passes for decent to the masses without a palate. WOW is a great game for those that like it. Aion appeals to a different market and a higher end gamer. You know, ones with decent comps and an eye for technological advances in gaming.
