Intersection: An MTV anime of Human Trafficking

Saw this in China in my hotel room on TV, and I thought it was really well done.
5 people: The victim, the trafficker, the undercover cop, the customer, and the brothel owner.
Watch the other parts on youtube, but this is just an intro.
Your opinions?

It's a familiar story. Happens a lot in every country, especially 3rd-world countries. I've similar cases where I used to live and some of the most frequent customers are actually the cops. I suppose it's the easiest way for them to satisfy their need to screw a 14 year old girl.

Well, it is because the government officials and the police are bribed (often) that makes it possible for it to continue and develop.
For example... A policemans salary is 1000 a month, then he gets 200 extra by the owners of a few "businesses" as some kind of protection money. He didn't see anything.
Then... does he accept the deal and get 20% more money each month, or does he refuse?
Sadly, most people take the money and ignore the problem; helping it to grow larger.

Re: Intersection: An MTV anime of Human Trafficking
I watched all the three episodes and what I can say is that they depict the problem very accurately, yet a bit too optimistic as these "crackdowns" are not as effective, nor occur as often, as one can assume after watching this.

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2009-08/19/content_11911941.htm wrote: NEW DELHI, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 150,000 women and girls, mostly from Nepal and Bangladesh, are trafficked every year to India or to a third country through India, as sex slaves, reported the Indo-Asian News Service Wednesday, quoting an international children protection non-government organization.
India is the main destination of "alarming flows" of cross-border trafficking in South Asia, said a study by the global child rights group End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes (ECPAT) International, according to the report.
"In India, the majority of trafficking in underage girls for sexual exploitation happens within the country," the report quoted ECPAT as saying.
Children are mainly trafficked to Indian states such as Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal from Nepal and Bangladesh, said the report.
Titled "Their Protection is in Our Hands: The State of Global Child Trafficking for Sexual Purposes", the ECPAT report was published in New Delhi Wednesday, while being published in many other countries haunted with the scourge of human trafficking.
"Between 5,000 and 7,000 Nepalese girls are trafficked into India for sexual exploitation every year," it said. "Children from Bangladesh and Nepal are also trafficked into and through India to Pakistan and the Middle East."

This trend paints an ugly picture on the already battered image of our country. It has become a life threathening ailment. For instance, the truck load of children caught with a woman recently. These children were packed in that rruck like sardines in a can. Very dehumanising! Another example is the orphanage in Lagos that breeds children for the purpose of selling them to the highest bidder.
A lot of reasons had been adduced for this pathetic trend that has a debilitating effect on manpower development and economic output. One of such reasons experts had identified, is the craze to get rich fast. Oftentimes, people who engage in child trafficing do so for personal economic empowerment, ritualistic purposes and slavish child labour. It must be noted here in passing that child trafficing leads to child labour and it subsequent twin sister child abuse. A merchant that deals in this type of trade does so to gain financially.
Secondly, greed to acquire a certain level of occultic powers make people engage in it. They use it to fortify themselves. Thirdly, mention should be made of the present unemployment and economic hardship that had made the minds of people to resort to evil without their conscience.
The efforts of some NGOs in Nigeria should be commended. Hajia Titi Abubakar, the wife of the vice president had initiated a frontal war against child traffickers. It was through her that the methodology of their operation was made public. In spite of what had been accomplished so far, much more need to be done to totally eradicate this menace.
Aggressive enlightenment program should be launched in the media to further highlight the dangers associated with this evil.
Finally, the Authorities vested with the power of enforcement should not treat this barons with kids gloves, rather they should be punished and severally dealt with. When this is done, it would serve as a deterent to those who are intending to engage in this illicit act.

By the late 1990s, UNICEF estimated that there are 60,000 child prostitutes in the Philippines, describing Angeles City brothels as "notorious" for offering sex with children. UNICEF estimates many of the 200 brothels in the notorious Angeles City offer children for sex.
Many of the Iraqi women fleeing the Iraq War are turning to prostitution, while others are trafficked abroad, to countries like Syria, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey[citation needed]. In Syria alone an estimated 50,000 Iraqi refugee girls and women, many of them widows, had been forced into prostitution as of 2007. Cheap Iraqi prostitutes have helped to make Syria a popular destination for sex tourists. The clients come from wealthier countries in the Middle East. High prices are offered for virgins.
The main motive of a woman (in some cases an underage girl) to accept an offer from a trafficker is better financial opportunities for herself or her family. In many cases traffickers initially offer ‘legitimate’ work or the promise of an opportunity to study. The main types of work offered are in the catering and hotel industry, in bars and clubs, modeling contracts, or au pair work. Traffickers sometimes use offers of marriage, threats, intimidation and kidnapping as means of obtaining victims. In the majority of cases, the women end up in prostitution. Also some (migrating) prostitutes become victims of human trafficking. Some women know they will be working as prostitutes, but they have an inaccurate view of the circumstances and the conditions of the work in their country of destination.

Re: Intersection: An MTV anime of Human Trafficking
powerpuff I actually did read that and I'd like to thank you for the research because I do realize now how horrible this is, but I'm not sure whether people around the world actually know about this issue.
I mean like I don't think regular people living the modern city life know how bad it is.
And plus there's not much anyone can do about this because like inky said, its corrupt in the system.
And yea this movie was very optimistic and it's really unlikely to happen.

That is one of the biggest problems out there, that it is either invisible or that people does not know much about it.
Hopefully this film will lead to some increased awareness; since it is MTV that's airing it I believe that a lot of young people will see it

Anime... Made in Korea... lol no.
I did watch it though, it really didn't do anything for me, voice acting was horrible and the story wasn't all that original. I'm more entertained by the documentaries you see on CNN (i think thats the channel). Those stories make me feel bad inside.
